About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Protection & Controls Engineer to support major capital projects for one of our clients in Newfoundland and Labrador. This role will focus on the development and execution of a new generating facility, along with supporting infrastructure and transmission systems.

The successful candidate will work within a multi-disciplinary engineering and project execution team, providing technical support across design review, procurement, installation, and commissioning phases. Responsibilities will include reviewing protection and control systems, supporting equipment selection, and ensuring alignment with project requirements and industry standards.

This role is based in St. John's and Holyrood, NL, with travel to project sites as required. The anticipated start date is May 2026, with an initial duration of one year, and the potential for extension.

Key Responsibilities

- Review technical packages and ensure compliance with standards and specifications

- Review plant automation, monitoring, and protection systems

- Assess protection and control studies, settings, and equipment configurations

- Provide input on new technologies and recommend optimal solutions

- Support procurement and selection of protection and control equipment

- Provide on-site support during installation and commissioning

- Interface with engineering teams, contractors, and operations staff

- Participate in design reviews, constructability workshops, and project meetings

- Contribute to project estimates, schedules, and planning activities

- Support contract administration and project execution activities

Education and Experience Required

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Process or Mechatronics Engineering may also be considered) or equivalent experience

- Eligible for membership with PEGNL

- Minimum of 10 years of experience, including protection, controls, and automation systems

- Strong knowledge of PLC/DCS systems, HMIs, and protective devices

- Experience in design, implementation, and troubleshooting of protection and control systems

- Experience preparing specifications, schematics, and wiring diagrams

- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills

- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team environment

- Experience with major capital projects or EPCM environments considered an asset

- Experience with combustion turbines or power generation systems considered an asset

- Experience with controller programming and communication protocols considered an asset

- Valid Canadian driver's license required

- Travel to project sites may be required

Pay: $60.00-$150.00 per hour
