The Electrical Estimator and Outside Sales Representative is responsible for conducting on-site residential assessments to design, price, and sell standby generator systems. This role combines technical evaluation, customer education, and consultative sales to deliver accurate estimates and close generator projects. The estimator serves as the primary point of contact from initial site visit through contract execution.
- Conduct in-home evaluations to determine proper generator size and system requirements
- Perform load calculations and assess electrical infrastructure
- Evaluate gas supply, placement options, setbacks, and code requirements
- Identify site-specific challenges and recommend solutions
- Prepare detailed, accurate estimates for standby generator installations
- Explain scope of work, pricing, timelines, and warranty options
- Present financing options and promotions when applicable
- Ensure estimates comply with manufacturer and local code standards
- Educate homeowners on generator benefits, operation, and maintenance
- Answer technical and non-technical questions clearly and confidently
- Build trust and guide customers toward informed purchasing decisions
- Close sales and secure signed agreements
- Submit completed site assessments, photos, and documentation
- Communicate project details to operations, permitting, and installation teams
- Update CRM systems with lead status, notes, and follow-ups
- Coordinate with retail partners (such as Home Depot) when applicable
- Conduct follow-ups with customers after estimates are delivered
- Address objections and revise proposals as needed
- Support customer satisfaction through clear communication
- Perform product knowledge training with Big Box retail stores
- Connect with key personnel and develop relationships
- Experience in generator sales, electrical estimating, or home improvement sales
- Strong customer-facing and communication skills
- Ability to read basic electrical layouts and perform load assessments
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Comfort working independently in residential settings
- Electrical or generator industry background
- Knowledge of standby generator brands (Generac, Kohler, etc.)
- Experience with CRM systems and in-home sales processes
- Understanding of local electrical and building codes

This position also operates on the road and employees must be capable of operating a vehicle and or traveling by air.
Frequent travel is expected for this position at an average of 50% on the road travel.
This position operates in in-home residential settings and as a field-based role requiring local travel. The role may require evening and weekend appointments based on scheduling and business needs.
