Are you looking for a new opportunity to work as a Director of Tax Accounting, Reporting & Compliance with Suncor? In this role, you will report directly to the Vice-President, Tax and Treasurer, and the Director of Tax Accounting, Reporting & Compliance represents a significant leadership position within the Suncor tax team. You will be accountable for stewarding the global tax provision process for the Suncor consolidated group of companies, which forms a critical component of Suncor’s external financial statements
- A professional designation is required with a minimum of 15 years of relevant tax experience in a senior role within a corporate tax department or professional services firm
- Completed CICA in-depth tax courses and advanced tax courses
- Deep knowledge and understanding of Canadian Income tax laws and regulations
- Deep knowledge and understanding of IFRS tax accounting rules and tax provision requirements
- Ability to research technical issues, apply research to specific facts and develop supportable tax filing positions
- Deep understanding of the financial planning and analysis, internal control structures and requirements, and finance functional responsibilities
- Lead a team of approximately 10 professionals. Manage consultants on a continuous basis. Strong leadership and effective communication skills
- Accountable for managing the global tax provision for the Suncor consolidated group of companies, including the entirety of the tax accounting, reporting and provision process, following the regular monthly, quarterly and annual timelines
- Regularly engages with and acts as the tax representative with the relevant stakeholder groups, providing the appropriate tax input, review and sign-off as required
- Accountable for managing the Uncertain Tax Position (“UTP”) process, ensuring that existing procedures are followed, that an inventory of potential tax issues is maintained and reviewed on a regular basis and that tax risk is effectively monitored and communicated to the organization.
- Accountable for developing and maintaining SOX controls and ensuring the appropriate documentation and sign-off procedures are followed
- Accountable for overseeing the preparation and timely filing of all Canadian domestic and international tax filings, ensuring all material tax positions are appropriately documented
- Accountable for overseeing the preparation and timely filing of all foreign corporate tax
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and tax policy developments in Canada and globally, consider the impact to Suncor and ensure the tax impact of changes is appropriately communicated and reflected in our tax filings
- This is an office-based role. You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
- Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
- Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
