PowerOptions is looking for a Director of Marketing & Communications to work collaboratively with a dynamic, mission-driven team to redefining how we market and communicate our mission and engage our nonprofit and public sector members as they decarbonize, innovate, and lead.

This is your chance to shape a marketing and communications function, bringing your creativity, leadership, and execution muscle to craft strategies that inform, inspire, and activate.
As Director of Marketing & Communications, you’ll help craft the voice of PowerOptions—leading strategy, storytelling, and execution across all channels. You’ll shape how we engage our Members and partners, educate our audiences, and bring clarity to complex energy and climate solutions.
· Co-create and implement our full-stack marketing & communications strategy—from brand and product messaging to digital campaigns and high-quality lead generation.
· Support brand stewardship, ensuring our messaging is consistent, compelling, and forward-looking.
· Design our approach to member education, collaborating cross-functionally to build experiences that help our Members navigate the complexities of energy markets and decarbonization with confidence and ease.
· Foster communications innovation by exploring AI, automation, and new digital engagement formats that support internal efficiency and deliver engaging member learning opportunities with our Director of Technology Enablement.
· Oversee events and member engagement activities, ensuring all touchpoints—from conferences to speaking gigs—reflect our strategic intent and excellence.
· Shape creative production—from print to digital, working collaboratively with our team to bring our story to life.
· Guide internal communications and executive presentations, equipping our team and leadership to communicate with clarity and confidence.
· Leverage data to drive decisions, managing systems like MCAE and continuously optimizing for performance and ROI.
· Build inclusive messaging and storytelling practices that reflect our commitment to equity, access, and belonging.
While no candidate will embody all qualifications, the idea candidate will possess the following:
· Strategic, creative thinker with the ability to set goals and create a plan for achievement.
· Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing, communications and public relations activities.
· Demonstrated expertise in lifecycle management, market segmentation and analysis, product marketing.
· Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational and personal marketing and communications skills.
· Demonstrated successful experience writing press releases, making presentations and negotiating with media.
· Experience overseeing the design and production of print materials and publications.
· Experience managing contractors and vendors and their budgets.
· Understanding of social media channels and best practices.
· Experience with relational databases or sales tracking systems, with Salesforce and MCAE preferred.
· Demonstrated strong oral and written communications skills.
· Track record to working collaboratively with partners and colleagues across multiple functions.
· Detail oriented with a track record of meeting deadlines.
· Able to work effectively and creatively in a fast paced environment
· 4-6 years experience in marketing, communications or public relations with demonstrated success, preferably in the energy sector with not-for-profit or association experience.
· Bachelors degree in journalism, marketing, public relations or related field preferred but not required.
· Ability to work collaboratively in a remote environment using tools like Office365, Teams, and Zoom
· Flexibility to work a varied schedule, with occasional travel within New England
