After a period of exciting, rapid growth, the EHS agenda has grown beyond the capabilities of in-house staff who had performed part-time EHS functions and the business is looking to hire an EHS Director, a full time position, to set strategic direction, develop and/or establish internal tools and systems, and coach staff across the organization to foster strong safety culture aligned with the company’s goals and business strategy.

During the first several months, you will be expected to familiarize yourself with BQE Water’s business and review all existing EHS policies and systems. Reporting to the VP-Shared Services (currently the company CFO), and working alongside other senior executives including VP-Projects Delivery, VP-Field Operations, and Director of Talent, the EHS Director’s duties will include, but not be limited to:
· Frame EHS requirements at BQE Water based on the business goals, needs, size, and risks., identifying gaps and establishing priorities in closing gaps.
· Set a direction in how EHS function is performed to support the company growth in the next 3 years, align EHS goals and initiatives with the organization's broader business objectives and develop an implementation plan.
· Prepare annual EHS budget and manage the budget throughout the year.
· Participate in strategic planning with senior management annually.
· Create a positive work environment by consistently embedding safety culture, mission, and ethical practices throughout the organization.
· Build and maintain strong relationships with executive leadership and senior managements to foster strong safety culture from the top and provide input into strategic business decisions involving EHS using a structured, data-driven approach to achieving consensus.
· Assist with succession planning for EHS Director position and oversee talent development in that area.
· Responsible and accountable for BQE’s compliance with legal and statutory requirements in Canada and US at corporate level and at individual operations.
· Stays current on industry trends and new standards.
· Integrating best practices into internal policies, systems etc.
· Identify hazards in existing and all future projects.
· Conducts audits/inspections of the company sites and operations.
· Analyzes incidents and implements corrective actions to prevent accidents and reduce environmental impact.
· Designs and delivers relevant safety and environmental training for all employees.
· Organizes and oversees staff training including: MSHA, OSHA, First Aid, CPR, WHMIS, H2S Alive, LOTOTO
· Works closely with executive management on all aspects of crisis communication and management.
· Responsible for monitoring and reporting key EHS metrics, presenting updates to the Board EHS Committee, and leading the development and implementation of EHS systems to meet company goals, compliance requirements, and reporting standards; additionally, supports HR in creating recognition programs that drive long-term employee motivation, engagement, and retention.
This individual will need to be able to evidence demonstrated strong leadership experience, communication and analytical skills. They will have the ability to work both independently, and as part of a team, showing expertise in EHS regulations and industry best practices that are relevant to BQE Water Inc. business scope, through experience, education and/or certifications.
While our head office is located in Vancouver, BC, this position is still open to those who prefer working remotely from any ocation in Canada or the US, subject to:
