Founded in 2002, the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) is a not-for-profit organization tasked with the safe, long-term management of Canada’s intermediate- and high-level radioactive waste, in a manner that protects people and the environment for generations to come.
The NWMO has been guided for more than 20 years by a dedicated team of world-class scientists, engineers and Indigenous Knowledge Holders who are developing innovative and collaborative solutions for nuclear waste management. In 2024, the NWMO selected Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation and the Township of Ignace as the hosts for the site for a deep geological repository for used nuclear fuel.
This decision means our office and staff will, in the future, be relocating to Ignace, Ont., and the deep geological repository will be situated in the area near Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation and the Township of Ignace. Infrastructure planning and development are underway to support this transition and ensure that both the community and our employees are well served and supported, now and in the future.
Development Summer Student – Contract Management & Administration
Employment Period: 16-Weeks Term from May 4, 2026 – August 27, 2026
Position Location: Toronto Head Office – 22 St. Clair Avenue East
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic Developmental Student – Contract Management & Administration to support the Project Management Office (PMO) Contracts Management & Administration team.
Reporting to the Manager, Contracts Management & Administration and working within a matrixed, multidisciplinary environment, the student will provide contract administration support for a diverse portfolio of contracts, from contract award through to closeout, in alignment with NWMO policies, procedures, and governance requirements. The role offers hands-on exposure to contract administration, business analysis, and work coordination in a regulated project environment.
- Support the Contract Management & Administration team across the contract lifecycle (award to closeout) in accordance with approved NWMO procedures and policies
- Organize contract documents in the centralized contract repository; ensure files are complete and stored according to internal policies
- Help maintain contract templates and standard forms in alignment with internal policies
- Support Contract Administrators (CAs) with invoice reviews and recommendations, including verification of calculations and supporting documentation
- Support CAs in creating defined transactions in the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system
- Verify required documentation is complete prior to internal ERP processing
- Support internal audits by gathering and organizing relevant contract documentation
- Assist with scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, documenting action items, and preparing contract documentation packages for review
- Update contract status trackers, reports, and dashboards as required
- Monitor upcoming contract expirations and renewal deadlines
- Prepare meeting notes, summaries, and follow-up lists
To the extent time allows beyond the duties described above, the student may be assigned to support additional PMO and contracts administration activities based on business needs.
- Currently enrolled in a university or college program (e.g., Business Administration, Commerce, Supply Chain & Procurement, Operations Management, Project Coordination, Office Administration, or related field)
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and documentation quality
- Strong reading comprehension and writing skills for analyzing texts, reports, and research materials
- Basic quantitative reasoning (interpreting tables, comparing data, understanding structured information)
- High ethical standards and ability to work with sensitive information
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
- Experience with Power BI or other contract/project management software
- Coursework involving critical reading, document interpretation, structured writing, or report preparation
- Foundational coursework in business, commerce, public administration, management, law, ethics, governance, or organizational behaviour
- Previous experience providing administrative support in a contracts or project environment
Students must be returning full-time to their program at their university/College following the completion of their work term or be full-time students requiring the work term or co-op Business
Students must be eligible and available to work in Canada for 35 hours a week, 7 hours per day and meet the security clearance requirements.
