Position: Data Analyst III

We are seeking a Senior Data Analyst to provide dedicated analytical support to our Drilling & Completions (D&C) organization in the Rockies region. This contract role is embedded directly within operations and plays a strategic part in transforming raw data into actionable insights that drive operational efficiency, well delivery performance, and capital optimization.

The ideal candidate will serve as a trusted data partner to D&C leadership, engineers, and field personnel — delivering high-quality analytics, dashboards, and automated solutions that directly impact business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Data Analysis & Insights

- Extract, analyze, and interpret complex operational datasets to drive strategic decisions

- Develop and maintain advanced SQL queries against enterprise systems (OXYODS, OpenWells, operational databases)

- Analyze drilling and completions performance, timelines, costs, and KPIs

- Translate technical findings into actionable business recommendations

Dashboard Development & Visualization

- Build and manage dashboards using Power BI (preferred) or Spotfire

- Develop clear, insightful visualizations for technical and non-technical audiences

- Troubleshoot data connections and optimize refresh performance

- Ensure reporting solutions align with enterprise BI standards

Process Automation & Optimization

- Identify manual processes and implement automation solutions

- Develop reusable SQL templates, stored procedures, and recurring reporting pipelines

- Continuously optimize data workflows and reporting efficiency

Collaboration & Stakeholder Support

- Partner closely with D&C engineers, operations leads, and business stakeholders

- Respond to ad-hoc data requests with speed and accuracy

- Document data lineage, business logic, and methodologies

- Collaborate with data engineers, IT, and data science teams

Data Quality & Governance

- Develop validation queries and perform quality control across source systems

- Monitor data freshness and proactively identify anomalies

- Support master data management for wells, pads, and operational hierarchies

Required Qualifications

Experience

- 3+ years experience as a Data Analyst or Business Intelligence Analyst - 2+ years writing complex SQL queries in production environments - 2+ years building and managing Power BI and/or Spotfire dashboards

- Experience supporting operations or engineering teams in data-intensive environments

Technical Skills

- Expert-level SQL (CTEs, joins, aggregations, window functions, subqueries)

- Power BI (preferred) or Spotfire experience

- Strong understanding of relational databases and data modeling

- Advanced Excel skills

- Experience with Git or Azure DevOps is a plus

Analytical & Communication Skills

- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities

- Ability to translate complex data into clear business insights

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Comfortable presenting to leadership and executive teams

- Self-starter able to manage multiple priorities

Education

- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Finance, or related field

Preferred Qualifications

- Upstream oil & gas experience strongly preferred

- Drilling & Completions knowledge

- Experience with OpenWells or similar well data systems

- Understanding of oil & gas operational metrics (API numbers, spud dates, lateral lengths, stages, frac timelines, etc.)

- Python or R for analytics and automation

- Microsoft Power Platform experience

- Experience with Azure or AWS cloud platforms

Work Location

Hybrid schedule required – Downtown Denver, CO
