Reporting to the Vice President, Marketing and Trading, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining long-term relationships with crude oil producing and trading companies whilst expanding our market presence and developing trading strategies through expansion of markets, assets, and product mix. The candidate will act as a key interface in the market offering trading/hedging solutions, in addition to interacting constantly with our operations and analytics team in the evaluation of portfolio risk and valuation of flexibility.
- Develop and execute trading strategies to maximize the value of existing and new transportation and storage assets, including assets connected to Cushing and other U.S. hubs.
- Identify and develop speculative and discretionary crude oil trading opportunities across domestic and U.S. crude grades, including intermonth and structure-based trades.
- Optimize a portfolio of structured products through effective implementation of trading strategies.
- Take a proactive role in business development, seeking out and evaluating market tenders to capture new business.
- Facilitate entry into new markets, leveraging knowledge of illiquid markets and broker contacts.
- Ensure trading activity is in compliance with internal risk governance policies/procedures and is accurately captured in trade reporting infrastructure (i.e. position reporting, trade bookings & settlement).
- Adhere to risk management and other corporate compliance policies.
- Develop and enhance counter-party relationships in order to expand our market presence and increase trading potential.
- Identify and develop speculative crude oil trading opportunities for domestic crude grades. This includes intermonth trades and futures opportunities.
- Develop a detailed understanding of pricing methods and liquid financial instruments available.
- Bachelor’s degree, combined with 10 years industry experience and five years of Crude trading experience.
- Demonstrate a clear focus on physical trading, with additional knowledge/experience of derivatives.
- Proven experience in new market entry and origination.
- Have a track record of positive P&L.
- Possess a deep understanding of risk management.
- Have strong commercial acumen, an entrepreneurial mind-set, analytical/IT skills, and take accountability for your results and contributions to the team.
- Possess a broad range of personal effectiveness and leadership skills, with the ability to facilitate and influence business decisions in a team environment.
- Entrepreneurial skills and strong negotiating skills.
- Knowledge of Canadian and U.S. crude supply networks and associated pipeline and storage infrastructure.
- Prudent risk-taking capability.
- Ability to obtain, absorb and filter market information/intelligence and act on it.
- Ability to assess market conditions and adjust market opinion and positions.
