Associate Gas Trader

Talen Energy is currently seeking an Associate Gas Trader to join our team!

This individual will be responsible for trading spot physical gas and managing the nomination of gas under long-term supply agreements daily. This person will be part of a team of traders who manage a gas and power portfolio comprised of structured commodity agreements and asset exposures. They will work closely with the Term Gas Trader and Power Asset Managers to optimize the value of the generating assets and existing physical and financial gas positions. This individual must have knowledge of gas market fundamentals, regulatory rules, and associated pipeline and price relationships in the Northeast.

Responsibilities

- Trade physical gas daily, monthly and term to optimize and capture locational spreads.

- Work with team members to execute a strategy focused on optimizing physical generating assets, associated gas contracts, and financial gas positions.

- Monitor market fundamentals, pipeline flows, storage levels, and weather forecasts to support trading decisions.

- Build and maintain relationships with counterparties and market participants.

- Forecast and track generation gas burns, optimize daily gas positions using existing Operational Balancing Agreements (OBAs) and Park-and-Loan deals.

- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements as dictated by our various supply agreements and pipeline interconnections.

- Work with Risk and Settlements to ensure accurate position tracking and billing for pipelines and counterparties.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Economics, Business, Finance, Engineering, or Mathematics preferred

- 1-3 years of experience trading and/or scheduling physical gas, preferably in the Northeast

- Fundamental knowledge of natural gas market dynamics and risk management strategies

- Understanding of generation assets and competitive market mechanisms

- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
