Position Summary Description

Supervises Seminole’s fuel supply team in the day-to-day activities associated with the procurement, logistics and optimization of Seminole’s fuel needs and resources. This includes natural gas supply, transportation, and storage; coal supply and rail transportation; and fuel oil management. Responsible for the implementation of Seminole’s fuel supply strategies, in coordination with energy supply and system operations, to ensure an overall optimized portfolio. Participates in the development and implementation of trading and risk management strategies associated with fuel supply to optimize Seminole’s energy portfolio. Performs critical, non-routine analysis related to the performance of commercial agreements and supports commercial assessments conducted by the energy supply and fuel supply teams. Supports the administration of power supply and fuel contracts required to serve Seminole's commercial activity.


Essential Functions

- Coordinates with system operations, energy supply and fuel supply personnel in achieving the most economic dispatch of SECI's resources on a daily basis, including determination of operating cost, unit dispatch order, and daily operating parameters.

- Provides a safe and productive work environment for team members congruent with Seminole’s desired culture and in full support of Seminole’s purpose, core values, core competencies and organizational goals.

- Develops short-term strategies for commodity transactions that reliably meet SECI’s generation needs.

- Supervises the fuel supply team in managing the day-to-day fuel responsibilities including the optimization of supply, transportation and storage agreements.

- Analyzes daily power and fuel requirements, existing positions and marketplace conditions to determine, recommend and implement appropriate strategies for daily, monthly and seasonal fuel supply and/or power procurement

- Analyzes market conditions through trade publications, personal contacts, electronic trading tools and other publicly available information. Effectively utilizes such information to enhance SECI's overall economic performance.

- Monitors weather forecasts, gas pipeline utilization, system conditions, outage schedules and other relevant market information to identify looming opportunities and challenges.

- Negotiates daily and monthly commodity purchases and/or sales and awarding of contracts and terms consistent with Seminole’s policies and procedures, including established credit and trade authorization limits.

- Ensures compliance with all trading policies and authority limits; approves transactions as needed.

- Monitors actual gas usage and cumulative imbalance to communicate positions to supervisor and team members and takes authorized actions to ensure imbalances are within acceptable thresholds.

- Prepares reporting and requested analysis related to fuel pricing, consumption and potential risks as required.

- Supports back-office verification of fuel-related invoices.

- Identifies opportunities for new enabling agreements that support cost-effective, reliable fuel supply deliveries and coordinates their review and execution.

- Prepares procedures and practices pertaining to fuel procurement and scheduling for review and approval by Seminole.

- Performs other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned.

NERC Compliance: Performs NERC Compliance Program roles if/as designated in Seminole's Standard Ownership Matrix (SOM) including ongoing evidence retention in "audit-ready" form. You should also be familiar with Seminole's Enterprise Internal Compliance Program (ENT-GCD-RGC-EP-054) to further your understanding of Seminole's compliance program and your duties and responsibilities in the SOM.


Qualifications and Education Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, Business Administration or Industrial Technology or related field. Five years of relevant data analysis, fuel management, contract administration or supply management experience. Preferred: experience with contract administration or gas/energy trading and scheduling wholesale electric markets, preferably in the southeast and/or Florida as well as one to two (1-2) years of supervisory or management experience.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to follow established protective measures including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.


Working Conditions

Normal office working conditions. Travel and work outside of regularly scheduled hours may be required. Position requires after-hours (evenings and weekends) on-call duty via a rotation.
