Overview:
A public sector client of ours in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is looking for a Content Writer for a 12-month contract that is likely to extend. This role intends to be on-site in their Philadelphia office.
The Content Writer supports the agency's Re-platforming and Redesign Initiative, a comprehensive effort to modernize the City’s primary digital platform. This initiative includes the design and development of a new content management system (CMS), a complete visual and functional redesign, and the migration of all existing site content into the new system. The goal is to deliver a more user-centered, accessible, and efficient digital experience that better serves residents, visitors, and City employees.
In this role, the Content Writer leads the data and content migration from the legacy website to the new CMS. The position is responsible for auditing, restructuring, and rewriting content as needed to ensure accurate, accessible, and well-structured content aligned with the City's voice, digital standards, and commitment to equity and inclusion. The Content Writer collaborates closely with City departments, designers, and developers to validate migrated content, resolve gaps or inconsistencies, and confirm readiness for launch.
- Researches, audits, writes, and edits web content to support the migration of data and content from the legacy platform to the new CMS.
- Translates complex City programs, services, and processes into clear, user-friendly language.
- Collaborates with City departments and digital teams to ensure migrated content aligns with City standards and accessibility guidelines.
- Optimizes content transfer to improve readability, engagement, and usability across digital platforms.
- Ensures all migrated materials reflect the established voice, tone, and commitment to accessibility, equity, and inclusion.
- Experience writing content for government, public sector, or civic-focused websites.
- Familiarity with Philadelphia City services, programs, and community needs.
- Basic knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) and web analytics related to digital content.
- Experience using content management systems (CMS) and digital publishing tools.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Prior experience creating or managing content for government websites.
- Understanding of plain language principles and digital accessibility standards, such as WCAG guidelines.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including designers, developers, and communications staff.
- Ability to analyze web content performance metrics and apply data-driven improvements.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and effective communication with diverse audiences.
