As a Compensation Specialist, you are accountable for conducting analysis, developing recommendations and the implementation and administration of EPCOR’s compensation programs in both Canada and the United States. This includes leading compensation projects, survey participation, developing costing models to support bargaining and board activities, establishing a network of contacts, gathering market data, and conducting research and analysis. You will establish a network of industry contacts and gather market data for insightful research and analysis. You will also be responsible for conducting thorough analyses of job descriptions and performing audits. In addition, you will administer and coordinate the full cycle of EPCOR’s expatriation program, from initiation to repatriation.
Your expertise will be vital in supporting various projects, initiatives, and annual compensation activities within the Total Rewards and cross-functional departments, ensuring seamless end-to-end delivery of solutions.
What you’d be responsible for
This position is accountable to Senior Manager, Compensation & Analytics and is responsible for:
•Providing input to the Senior Manager, Compensation & Analytics, ensuring a clear understanding of the team's strategy.
•Participating in third-party surveys, gathering market data, researching market conditions and competitive practices, and developing recommendations aligned with EPCOR’s compensation philosophy.
•Developing costing models and supporting the development of bargaining mandates and the collective bargaining process.
•Administering the annual merit and incentive programs, including budget recommendations, data accuracy, system readiness, salary and incentive calculations, communication tools, payroll implementation, and reporting.
•Administering and coordinating the full cycle of EPCOR’s expatriation/repatriation/relocation program to facilitate cross-border mobility.
•Conducting analyses of job descriptions, performing audits, and classifying roles based on responsibilities and qualifications.
•Leading in maintaining the internal equity of EPCOR’s job evaluation frameworks, including final level assignments.
•Updating the Hay Database and Non-Union Job Database (for both US and Canada) with relevant job documentation.
•Collaborating effectively with various Human Resources teams.
•Providing consultation, recommendations, training, resources, and support for job evaluation and compensation issues to managers, HR functional areas, and other departments.
•Supporting compensation policy or program development, revising and updating existing practices, programs, and processes to ensure compliance with policies, standards, and regulatory requirements, and mitigating risks.
•Participating in process improvements and the development and implementation of innovative and effective compensation and total reward programs, policies, and practices.
What’s required to be successful
•University Degree is required.
+ A diploma plus equivalent related work experience may be considered.
•Minimum 5 years of experience working in a Total Rewards capacity.
•Experience with market pricing, pay structure development, short-term and long-term incentive plans, third-party survey participation, job evaluation, and labor costing models.
•HR Generalist experience is considered an asset.
•Demonstrated understanding of the holistic role of total rewards in the employee value proposition.
•Knowledge of process improvement and change management techniques.
•Advanced proficiency in MS Office.
•Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented, and confidential environment with exceptional attention to detail and a strong focus on confidentiality.
•Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, including developing and generating reports and analytics, and analyzing data to identify trends and areas of opportunity.
•Statistical knowledge and/or experience.
•Strong knowledge of MS Office, including advanced Word skills, Excel capabilities (formulas, pivot tables, macros), proficiency in spreadsheet analysis, and solid Access database and PowerPoint skills.
•Strong presentation, oral, and written business communication skills.
