Position Summary

Bridge Brothers is seeking a Coatings Expert to oversee surface preparation, painting, and protective coating applications on structural steel bridge components. This role ensures coatings meet all industry, DOT, AISC, and customer specifications while upholding the highest levels of safety and quality. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of industrial coatings, surface prep techniques, and inspection requirements, along with the ability to lead and train a team.


Key Responsibilities

- Oversee all aspects of industrial coatings application, including surface preparation, mixing, and application of high-performance paints and protective systems.

- Ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications, AWS/AISC, DOT standards, and customer contract requirements.

- Inspect coating work for thickness, adhesion, coverage, and surface preparation quality.

- Maintain and calibrate testing equipment (DFT gauges, adhesion testers, etc.).

- Collaborate with project managers and quality control teams to ensure coating schedules and standards are met.

- Train and mentor team members on best practices in painting, coatings, and safety.

- Maintain documentation of coating operations, inspections, and compliance records.

- Coordinate inventory levels and notify management of coating supply needs.

- Promote and enforce all safety protocols and ensure safe handling of paints, solvents, and blasting equipment.


Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical certifications preferred.

- 5+ years of experience in industrial coatings, painting, or surface preparation within structural steel, marine, or heavy industrial environments.

- Strong understanding of epoxies, zinc coatings, and high-performance coating systems.

- NACE or SSPC certification highly preferred (or willingness to obtain).

- Familiarity with coating inspection tools and standards.

- Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred.

- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.

- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in a physically demanding environment.


Work Environment

- Fast-paced fabrication and coating shop environment.

- Frequent exposure to paint fumes, blasting dust, and loud equipment.

- Standing, bending, and lifting for extended periods required.

- PPE required and provided.


Role Details

- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. EST (some weekends as needed)

- Overtime: Available as required

- Employment Type: Full-time, Exempt

- Benefits: Eligible after 90 days (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, PTO, and paid holidays)
