About The Role
The Assistant Shift Operator will be a key member of the Operations team, responsible for assisting the Shift Operator, and direct supervision of the Loader Operator in the efficient and safe operation of the plant and the system. We are seeking a hardworking individual who is passionate about decarbonization and has a desire to play an active role in the transition to clean energy.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain all equipment at the plant(s) including but not limited to incinerators, heat recovery boilers, emission controls, turbines, water treatment systems, wood fired systems, chillers, district heat transfer and pumping system, computer control systems and other plant related equipment.
- Ensure that the incinerators and associated equipment are operated in a manner that is consistent with the plant Operating Permit.
- Direct Loader Operators in the efficient handling of waste to ensure proper loading of the incinerators and maximum energy output from the waste operation.
- Perform all regular checks on plant equipment as required.
- Utilize plant computer control system to monitor and operate plant equipment to ensure efficient and reliable energy delivery to Enwave’s customers.
- Assist the Shift Operator in the operation of the plant, distribution system and any related equipment.
- Participate in regular cleaning of plant and equipment, as well as regular shutdowns and maintenance outages.
- Perform all duties consistent with safe work practices as is generally practiced in industrial environments and in accordance with established Enwave safety practices and regulations as detailed in the Enwave Safety Manual.
- Approve the issuing of safe work permits to plant maintenance personnel and outside contractors in accordance with the company’s safety policies. Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the same.
- The Assistant Shift Operator reports to the Chief Engineer and is responsible for the performance of work as described above. This position will also be expected to perform all reasonable tasks or duties to assist the company as determined by management.
- Minimum Grade 12 or approved equivalent
- Demonstrated knowledge of energy production, heat transfer and distribution concepts
- Valid 3rd Class PEI Power Engineer’s Certificate
- Excellent physical condition
- Efficient computer skills
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment which requires a high level of flexibility and adaptability.
