Operator Assistant (1st Shift)

Description

Operator Assistant helps the machine operator with basic machine set up and helps to

ensure the machines are running efficiently within a machine group. The position will be

required to pack product off machine and into cartons or containers according to customer

specifications in a manufacturing facility when needed. The Operator Assistant ensures

safety, quality, and production standards are met or exceeded.

1st Shift, Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:00pm

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Pack product off machine per orientation on stacking diagrams

- Pack product into cartons without deforming the product

- Ensure carton quantity is correct and every carton is labeled appropriately

- Measure and test product

- Identify defects in product and notify operator, making sure to stop machinery when defects are not corrected

- Maintain a pace that keeps up w/ machine throughput capabilities

- Remove start-ups and screen for defects

- Inspect and properly clear bag overflow area

- Complete required quality checks following the procedure required to complete the checks

- Must understand how to operate E-stops and have the ability to identify safety sensitive situations that would require use of an E-stop

- Properly set up and operate case sealing & erector machine(s)

- Assist machine operator and other team members as needed (including, but not limited to, stacking cartons, screening bags, cleaning work area, and assisting nearby packers when assigned machine is down)

- Practice safe work and personal behavior with regards to equipment and task, including reporting near misses and use of first aid

- Maintain a clean and orderly work area ensuring any instances of poor housekeeping are addressed and fixed quickly

- Must become fully proficient in packing all product types based on company standards, with the flexibility to move to different machinery (when requested)

- Must be proficient in scanning barcodes

- Must understand lock-out/tag-out procedures and have the ability to identify safety sensitive situations that should require the lock-out/tag-out procedure

- Position requires the ability to work up to 12 hours/shift

- Must be able to work overtime as needed (based on production and department needs)

- Other related duties may be assigned as necessary

- Position will assist operators (when needed) with the following but is not limited to:o

Adjusting stacking pins and windmill arms safely and efficiently remove jams clean knife

of foreign debris using proper safety procedures add appropriate amount of glue to the glue

tank, grommets, wickets and boxes, help in jogging machine as needed, maintain proper

webbing through equipment, thread release liner, reset & start machine as needed, assist

in basic machine set up and operation.

Education:

- High School Diploma or equivalent desired

Qualifications:

- Must be a Packer II and/or have relevant experience

- Must be capable of reading work instructions and safety rules

- Must be capable of reading a ruler

- Must be able to adapt and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

- Must be capable of maintaining good attendance

- At least 9-18 months of manufacturing work history desired

Skills/Competencies

- Must be able to read, speak, and write English with good interpersonal skills. To include reading and comprehending work instructions, safety rules

- Must be capable of performing addition, subtraction, multiplication and division calculations.

- Must possess good organization and time management skills and practices

- Must be capable of using a computer to perform data entry and printing functions.

- Work is performed by using both hands and arms while in a standing position for an eight to twelve-hour shift.

- Frequently bends, reaches, twists, pushes, pulls, squats, or kneels.

- Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs occasionally
