Canadian Natural is seeking well-rounded intermediate to senior Area Geophysicists with strong technical and communication skills to join our Conventional and Thermal Exploration teams. These roles offer the opportunity to work across a diverse asset base, delivering integrated seismic interpretations that support current operations and future development opportunities.
You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize reservoir performance and progress growth opportunities across Canadian Natural’s conventional oil and gas portfolio—including cold heavy oil, liquids-rich natural gas, light crude oil in the Montney, Duvernay, and Deep Basin, as well as other emerging WCSB prospects—and/or the company’s thermal bitumen assets, including McMurray and Clearwater SAGD, CSS, and Steam flood operations.

- Note: This posting represents multiple Area Geophysicist vacancies spanning Conventional and Thermal assets. Final role alignment will be based on candidate experience, technical strengths, and business needs.
- Work in a team environment to identify, evaluate, and progress development and growth opportunities within producing properties and future developments by providing geophysical support to the planning and execution of drilling and completion programs. This includes horizontal and multi-lateral wells, stratigraphic and disposal wells, and thermal producer/injector well pairs.
- Apply seismic interpretation methodologies—including seismic modelling and synthetic well ties, horizon and amplitude mapping, time-to-depth conversion, attribute analysis, and 4D difference mapping—integrated with geological, petrophysical, and engineering data.- 4+ years of Canadian petroleum geophysics experience with a Bachelor of Science in Geophysics. An advanced degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) is considered an asset but not required.
- Registration (or eligibility for registration) with APEGA is required.
- Proven problem-solving, communication, organizational, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Strong business acumen with a demonstrated ability to integrate geophysics with economic drivers, focusing effort on the highest value opportunities and identifying technical optimizations to improve project economics.
- Demonstrated high proficiency with Seisware or Petrel. Familiarity with Subsurface AI (Attribute Studio), Hampson & Russell (Strata, Emerge, Pro4D, AVO), and data analysis tools such as Tableau, ArcGIS, Excel, and Python is also considered an asset.
