Location - Calgary, Alberta (Hybrid role with flexible remote options within Alberta; regular in-office collaboration required at our downtown Calgary headquarters)
Role Summary - As Controller, you will lead the finance and accounting function for our established private company, overseeing all financial operations in a blended environment of SaaS revenue streams and energy services. Reporting directly to executive leadership, you will ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with ASPE, strong internal controls, and insightful analysis to support continued growth in the oil and gas tech sector. This hands-on role involves managing a small accounting team, collaboration with multiple branch management and administrators, while handling accounting, budgeting, and strategic financial planning.
- Provide strategic leadership over full cycle accounting, cash flow management, month end close, and all internal and external financial reporting, including executive dashboards
- Financial statement preparation in compliance with Canadian accounting standards (ASPE), robust tax governance across Canada and the US, including corporate filings, multi jurisdictional sales tax compliance, and oversight of external audit engagements.
- Drive the budgeting and forecasting process, oversee SaaS revenue analytics, and deliver KPI insights to support corporate strategy and operational performance
- Strengthen financial operations through management of cash conversion cycle including AP/AR, collections, CAPEX, SaaS billings, Deferred Development Costs, and SR&ED, while ensuring accuracy and transparency through maintaining disciplined financial controls.
- Oversee enterprise insurance programs, COIs, intercompany documentation, immigration support (L1), and regulatory and industry compliance across Canadian provinces and multiple US jurisdictions.
- Provide leadership across HR and payroll functions, including ADP administration (Canada & US), employment agreements, benefits, WCB reporting, and government surveys and grant programs.
- Manage commercial and operational risk through oversight of contracts, supplier and customer credit applications, leases, and landlord/utility relationships, ensuring continuity and compliance across all locations.
- Lead and mentor a small accounting team, fostering development while driving process improvements and system optimization, including ERP enhancements/
- Professional accounting designation (CPA) required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or senior finance role.- Experience in SaaS or software companies essential
- Familiarity with oil and gas industry.
- Proficiency in accounting software (SAP Business One) and advanced Excel; experience with financial analytics tools a plus.
- Solid understanding of internal controls, financial reporting, and Canadian tax compliance for private companies.
