SUMMARY: Provides assistance to the Accountant and Manager of Accounting and has a general understanding of all finance related activities and procedures. Performs related work as required.
- Is the Backup to the Accountant for all duties and responsibilities
- Responsible for ensuring accounting policies and procedures are established and implemented
- Responsible for assisting the Accountant and Manager of Accounting in performing the necessary accounting functions required to provide accurate and timely financial statements
- Performs bank reconciliations daily and monthly
- Ensures accounts receivable is reconciled daily
- Prepares and records monthly journal entries
- Monitors cash accounts and performs cash forecasts to ensure bank accounts are adequately funded
- Serves as liaison between Cash and Accounting to investigate any discrepancies noted in Cash
- Adds and balances activities, and MOD’s monthly
- Other duties may be assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field from an accredited college preferred. Minimum of 5 years related work experience. Required knowledge and experience using of General Ledger and the ability to prepare financial statements. Knowledge and experience of accounting functions and principles. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management staff and employees. Applicant must have working experience and knowledge of database systems and Microsoft Office programs (Word/Excel). Efficiency in Excel and the ability to apply principles of accounting to make sound judgment decisions.
Must have a standard High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
Must have experience with financial computer - based systems. Candidate should be able to assist in all duties related to the external audit process. This includes, but is not limited to: reasonable knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and SAS (Statement of Audit Standards) requirements, analysis and preparation of all supporting audit work papers, and preparation and completion of the draft audit documents.
Ability to write reports, effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers or the general public. Must possess good customer service skills and oral and written communication skills.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions and percentages and has a good knowledge of Excel.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Possession of a valid Georgia or Alabama Driver’s License and good driving record.
