The Yard Supervisor (Working Supervisor) is responsible for overseeing daily yard operations while actively working alongside the team. This role ensures the safe and efficient loading and unloading of trucks, proper waste sorting, and maximizing diversion from landfill. The Yard Supervisor plays a key role in maintaining health and safety standards, leading the yard team, and setting drivers up for success.
- Supervise and participate in daily yard operations, acting as a working leader
- Ensure all trucks are loaded and unloaded safely and properly
- Oversee sorting of waste, recycling, and organics to maximize diversion from landfill
- Monitor and enforce health and safety policies and procedures
- Identify and correct unsafe loading, unloading, or work practices immediately
- Coordinate with drivers to ensure efficient routing and readiness for shifts
- Lead, support, and motivate yard staff to maintain productivity and quality standards
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the yard and work areas
- Conduct routine checks to ensure equipment is operating safely
- Address and escalate hazards, incidents, or equipment issues when needed
- Assist with training new employees and reinforcing SOPs
- Full G driver’s license (D licence is a bonus)
- Previous experience in waste, recycling, logistics, or yard operations preferred
- Leadership or supervisory experience is an asset
- Strong understanding of health and safety practices
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks when required
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
- Forklift certification and experience is an asset (not required)
- Afternoon shift (Monday to Friday; occasional Sundays as required)
- Mostly outdoor work environment
- Exposure to various weather conditions
- Physically active role involving standing, walking, lifting, pushing, and pulling
- Required use of PPE (safety boots, gloves, eye protection, etc.)
