The Yard Supervisor ensures the efficient daily operation of the production yard, focusing on logistics, production, staffing, and safety compliance. This role optimizes productivity and resource use, maintains quality standards, and coordinates with the Logistics team for timely deliveries. The Yard Supervisor manages yard staff and operations, overseeing equipment maintenance and repairs, and ensuring product quality meets Bell’s requirements. Additionally, the Yard Supervisor is accountable for adhering to WH&S regulations and chairing regular staff meetings to ensure safety compliance. They will be expected to work as part of one team to embrace the company’s mission of radically loving and influencing lives, actively demonstrating the values of excellence, stewardship, and entrepreneurial spirit in both behavior and attitude.
- Provide leadership and oversight for daily yard operations, focusing on logistics, production, and staffing.
- Ensure adherence to safe work methods and use of personal protective equipment, including the availability and use of protective devices and guarding as required.
- Conduct regular safety audits to identify and mitigate potential hazards and host regular safety meetings for staff.
- Work with Plant Manager to develop and implement procedures and corrective actions as needed to minimize future risks.
- Ensure that employees are trained effectively on quality standards and practices, communicate and ensure compliance with existing and new standards, and hold individuals accountable.
- Assist the Manager of Plant Operations in managing environmental compliance for plant operations including SWPP plans, SPCC audits, and any other required processes.
- Monitor and report employee absences and/or performance issues to Plant Manager and collaborate on disciplinary actions with Human Resources as needed.
- Utilize effective manufacturing methodologies as directed to improve plant performance and meet organizational goals.
- Follow Plant Manager’s direction in managing plant schedules, work orders, and shipments to achieve on-time performance.
- Assist in maintaining yard supply (product inventory) as well as supplies, PPE, and parts inventory.
- Work with Plant Manager and Operations Training team to implement and audit standard work procedures and report accountability metrics.
- Coordinate with the Logistics team for loading and unloading inbound and outbound shipments to ensure compliance with delivery standards.
- Communicate regularly with upper management on the status of projects, responsibilities, and overall yard performance.
- Notify Plant Manager of any issues with equipment, treating processes, mobile units, or other yard facilities.
- Partner with the Quality team to oversee product quality control standards, processes, and audits.
- Utilize planning tools and software for operations such as framing, kilning, and/or treating.
- Capable of performing any operational role within the yard as needed, including operating heavy equipment (log crane, peeler, front-end loader, etc.), grading, and / or framing poles.
- Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities include assisting Plant Manager in training employees; directing work; appraising performance and rewarding or disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, or relevant combination of education and experience.
Experience: At least two years of experience in lumber manufacturing or related industry is required; prior leadership experience preferred.

- Ability to properly use and maintain all PPE.
- Experience with or ability to learn inventory and maintenance processes.
To perform the duties of this job, the employee may be required to use the computer for extended periods of time in a sitting or standing position. Ability to work under time constraints and ability to work in a fast-paced work environment. The employee will need to be on their feet for an extended period. Bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and moving products, minimum of 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The production work environment characteristics are best defined as an outdoor environment with exposure to elements such as heat, cold, precipitation, and wind. Employees will have moderate exposure to noise as heard in pole production yard, including exposure to higher noise levels associated with power equipment. Employees will have light exposure to the chemicals and solutions used in treating wood. Occasional travel may be required.
