We are seeking a highly skilled Welder/Machinist who bridges the gap between manual machining and industrial welding. In this role, you won't just be joining metal; you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of component restoration and precision creation.
The ideal candidate excels at rotating equipment—specifically creating shafts from scratch and using buildup welding techniques to bring worn components back to OEM specifications. If you have a "measure twice, weld once" mentality and thrive in a custom job-shop environment, we want to hear from you.
- Precision Machining: Set up and operate manual Lathes and Mills to fabricate new shafts and industrial components from raw stock.
- Buildup & Reclamation: Use MIG and TIG welding to build up worn journals, bearing surfaces, and seal areas, then machine them back to precise OEM tolerances.
- Custom Fabrication: Execute full-cycle fabrication of custom parts, including cutting, fitting, welding, and final machining.
- Metrology & Inspection: Perform rigorous quality checks using micrometers, bore gauges, and dial indicators to ensure tolerances (often within $pm 0.0005$ inches).
- Blueprint Proficiency: Interpret complex mechanical drawings and engineering sketches to determine the best repair or fabrication path.
- Heat Management: Monitor and control heat input during the welding process to prevent warping or structural compromise of critical rotating parts.High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree or certification preferred.
- Machining: 5+ years of experience with manual lathes (turning, threading, boring) and milling machines.
- Welding: Proven proficiency in TIG (GMAW) and MIG (GTAW), specifically on carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloyed metals.
- Rotating Equipment: Deep understanding of shaft geometry, keyways, and press-fit tolerances.
- Problem Solving: Ability to assess a worn part and independently decide the correct buildup material and machining sequence
Additional experience needed: Specializing in mill and lathe work, MIG and TIG welding. create precise shafts and restore worn components through welding and machining.
