The Welder Fabricator is responsible for welding grating products to specified dimensions and tolerances in accordance with work instructions. This includes applying metal banding to cut-outs, end trim bands, and load bands as part of a fabrication line. This position requires teamwork, strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to follow procedures to ensure quality and safety. Work will be reviewed by a supervisor to ensure it meets all quality standards.
- Perform layout, assembly, and welding of grating product lines per work instructions and specifications.
- Identify material types, spacing, and layout needs from work orders.
- Set up welding equipment (wire, gas, parameters) to produce visually acceptable fillet welds.
- Apply metal banding to specified areas including cut-outs, end trim, and load bands.
- Operate overhead and jib cranes to move and position grating materials safely.
- Use various hand and power tools such as grinders, cutting torches, saws, and routers.
- Conduct visual inspections of welds to ensure quality and report defects to supervision.
- Complete paperwork and enter transactions in the ERP system (Epicor) for inventory tracking.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers and support a positive team environment.
- Follow all safety procedures, operational guidelines, and process instructions.
- Keep personal and shared workspaces clean and organized.
- Cross-train and perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Prior fabrication experience including crane operation, material handling, and hand/power tools.
- Ability to read tape measures and understand standard units of measurement.
- Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide without a calculator).
- MIG welding experience with carbon steel, stainless steel, or aluminum.
- Experience with oxy/fuel torches and plasma cutting.
- AWS certifications (D1.1, D1.2, D1.5, D1.6).
- Familiarity with weld symbols, fillet weld gauges, and blueprint reading.
- Experience with complex fit-ups and fixture use.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Regular standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs regularly and 75 lbs occasionally using proper lifting techniques or assistance.
- Repetitive motion and sustained physical activity for extended periods.
- Regular exposure to production floor conditions, including noise, dust, heat, and cold.
- Requires proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Exposure to machinery and tools; adherence to safety procedures is critical.
