The Thompson Creek Mine is a primary, surface molybdenum mine and mill located approximately 48 kilometers southwest of the town of Challis in Idaho's Custer County.
In operations since 1983, the mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods with large electric-powered shovels that can each move up to 100,000 tons of waste rock and ore per day.
Thompson Creek Mine promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
We are looking for a Trainer, Safety to join our Thompson Creek team. Reporting to the Manager, Safety and Security, the Trainer, Safety is responsible for coordinating and presenting training for new and existing employees, communicating safety regulations and processes, and assisting with hands-on- training. This position will also be responsible for the sites ERT program.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Develop training programs and indicative’s, including but not limited to training room presentations, field training, hands on training techniques, and off-site classroom training.
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures to ensure consistency and accuracy in all operations procedures.
- Collaborate directly with department supervisors to ensure effective training on proper equipment operations techniques within their teams.
- Stay up to date on current safety regulations and ensure training programs meet federal, state, and company standards.
- Oversee the sites ERT program ensuring compliance with all regulations.
- Develop progress tracking and evaluation mechanisms to ensure the trainees are benefiting from the training provided.
- Maintain and track site training records and reporting.
- Achieve Key Performance Indicators for relevant areas of work.
- Lead the sites New Miner and Annual Refresher trainings and programs.
- Ensure mine site personnel have the required task training and documentation before engaging in activity where it is required. Assist in maintaining interdepartmental record keeping of such documents.
- Fill in for Safety Representatives and Security as required.
To qualify, the following skills and experiences are required:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Three to Five years experience in Safety and Health department leading training.
- Show increasing levels of responsibility and accountability based on education, training, acquired knowledge, skills development, and desire to advance within the organization(s).
- Certified MSHA instructor.
- EMT Certified Instructor or the ability to gain EMT Certified Instruction Certification.
- Familiarity with and an understanding of behavioral based safety programs and risk analysis is highly desirable.
- Ability to lead and motivate teams.
- In depth experience with MSHA regulatory requirements.
- Professional mine safety/health certification preferred.
- Must be team oriented with a proven record of fostering both departmental and interdepartmental support, cooperation and team building among employees.
- Must possess excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills, have a strong understanding of mill production, maintenance, and engineering systems, able to communicate complex issues to all levels of the organization and have excellent use of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other related software packages.
- Ability to develop/write Standard Operating Procedures from OEM manuals or field instructions/training.
