The Safety Specialist – Training & Compliance plays a vital role in Supporting training and compliance for all facilities and the Field Services Team. Working under limited supervision, this position requires proactive engagement with corporate, facility, and field service team members. To be successful in this position you must have a strong background in training, compliance, and data analytics. The Safety Specialist – Training & Compliance will report directly to the Senior HSE Manager and may also receive direction from the Director of HSE.
OSHA and Company Specific Training Development & Delivery
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver OSHA-mandated and company-specific safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors. (In-Person & Online Training)
- Update training content to reflect current regulatory requirements, company policies, and industry best practices.
- Maintain and audit training records to ensure compliance and readiness for regulatory review.
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver onboarding safety orientations for new hires
- Monitor and ensure compliance with OSHA and other applicable HSE regulations across assigned facilities.
- Draft, review, and implement HSE procedures, and other documents to support HSE.
- Conduct safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify risks and ensure regulatory alignment.
- Support incident investigations and coordinate corrective action implementation.
- Collect, manage, and analyze HSE data, including incident metrics, training completion, Near Misses, Learning Teams, and inspection findings.
- Prepare OSHA logs (300, 300A, 301) and ensure timely reporting and postings as required.
- Produce safety performance reports, create and maintain dashboards and present findings to HSE leadership and facility leadership
- Identify trends and recommend proactive measures to reduce risk and improve safety culture.
- Serve as a resource for employees and supervisors on HSE related compliance questions and training needs.
- Participate in safety meetings, project kickoffs, and cross-functional teams to help integrate safety into operations and identify training improvement opportunities
- Support emergency response drills, safety campaigns, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Collaborate with corporate and site leadership to advance companywide safety objectives.
- Associate degree in Safety, Environmental Science, or related field; OR minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in safety training, training development, compliance, or data analysis (manufacturing or industrial environment preferred).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience conducting hazard/risk assessments.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience leading near-miss and incident investigations and corrective action planning.
- Equivalent military experience will be considered in lieu of traditional education or industry experience.
- Strong understanding of OSHA regulations for General Industry and Construction.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver engaging safety training programs.
- Proficiency in collecting, analyzing, and reporting safety data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
- Technical proficiency, ability to utilize training applications to create and deliver training.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to interact across all organizational levels.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
- Fluency in English with full professional proficiency (speaking, reading, and writing).
- Bachelor degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or related field.
- Specific training or certification for Training development for in-person training and electronic/on-line training programs/systems.
- OSHA 30-Hour certification (General Industry or Construction).
- Certifications such as ASP, CSP, or OHST.
- Experience with NFPA 70E, LOTO, and hazard communication programs.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
- Bilingual proficiency (Spanish or Vietnamese) is a plus.
- Full range of body motion and dexterity required.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, and climb ladders/stairs for extended periods.
- Work from heights or confined spaces as needed.
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. required.
- Correctable 20/20 vision required: full color distinction necessary.
- Safety glasses required in production; contact lenses not permitted in those areas.
- Work may occur indoors or outdoors depending on location and season.
- Exposure to loud noises, odors, lights, dust, insects, and varying temperatures may occur.
- Extended periods on concrete floors or uneven surfaces may be required.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
Work Environment:
May work in various settings at the Maverick Power facilities, in offices, in multiple shops, and in commercial buildings. Maintaining the same position or posture while performing tasks and sitting for prolonged periods.
