The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the workplace safety programs to ensure a healthy, safe, and compliant work environment. The Safety Manager will identify potential hazards, conduct safety audits, investigate incidents, and ensure adherence to safety regulations. Key responsibilities include training employees on safety procedures, managing safety-related paperwork and recommending corrective actions.
The Training Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing training programs to enhance employee skills and performance. This includes identifying training needs, developing curriculum, and ensuring effective delivery of learning initiatives.
- Develop and maintain safety policies and procedures – this includes creating and updating documents that outline safe work practices, emergency procedures and other safety-related guidelines
- Conduct safety audits and inspections – regularly inspect the workplace to identify potential hazards, evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs, and ensure compliance with regulations
- Develop and implement safety training programs – ensure that employees are adequately trained on safety procedures, regulations, PPE, etc.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, inspections, training logs and other safety-related documentation
- Investigate accidents and injuries – thoroughly investigate workplace incidents to determine root causes, identify contributing factors, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Monitor workplace conditions and ensure compliance – stay up-to-date on safety regulations, conducting inspections, and taking action to address any non-compliance issues
- Develop emergency response plans – collaborate with management to develop and implement emergency response plans, conducting drills, and ensuring employees are prepared for emergencies
- Implement corrective actions – recommend and implement measures to address identified hazards and improve safety performance
- Monitor safety trends and legislative changes – stay informed about the latest developments in safety regulations and best practices
- Communicate safety information to employees – provide clear and concise information about safety procedures, regulations, and expectations
- Work with management to promote a positive safety culture – encourage a proactive approach to safety, empowering employees to report hazards, and promoting a culture where safety is priority
- Administer the audiometric testing and hearing conservation programs
- Monitor, analyze and record performance of the plant exhaust and make-up air ventilation systems
- Manage the plant PPE, work clothing and safety equipment programs according to company standards and operating budget
- Administer the respiratory protection program including quantitative fit testing, respirator distribution, cleaning and sanitizing
- Administer the workers’ compensation program, including effective medical case management, reporting, record maintenance and follow-up
- Maintain an accurate OSHA 300 log
- Accompany visiting inspectors and report findings
- Administer the plant hazard communication program, including maintaining up-to-date SDS’s, effective identification of all chemicals, chemical inventory and related training and education programs
- This position has the authority to issue corrective actions to any employee who violates company safety rules or regulations
- Identify and assess training needs within the organization
- Design and develop training programs, including curriculum, materials, and delivery methods
- Implement and oversee training programs, including scheduling, logistics and facilitation
- Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make adjustments as needed
- Organize external training activities – establish and maintain relationships with external training suppliers
- Ensure annual retraining sessions occur as required and/or necessary
- Stay updated on and implement new technologies and methods in training
- Work with other departments and stakeholders to ensure training aligns with business goals
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety/Industrial Hygiene or related field highly preferred
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum four years of experience in a manufacturing environment
- Previous experience with OSHA a plus
