The Opportunity
South Bow is seeking a motivated engineering student interested in hands-on experience across its SCADA & Automation, Process Hydraulics (PHE) and Leak Detection Engineering (LDE) teams. In this role, you will contribute to modeling, analysis, and engineering projects that strengthen operational reliability and enhance the overall integrity of our liquid pipeline operations.

SCADA & Automation/Process Hydraulics & Leak Detection Engineering (Role will be shared between the teams)
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with Control Center, SCADA, PHE and LDE, Cybersecurity, Systems Operations and field teams to support safe, reliable operations
- Provide On-Call support and assist in the resolution of issues that impact the reliability of the SCADA and leak detection systems
- Maintain scorecards and dashboards for leading and lagging KPIs for stakeholders.
- Build and maintain steady-state and transient hydraulic models (e.g., flow/pressure profiles, batch scheduling, slack line checks, surge analysis)
- Perform hydraulic calculations for capacity assessment, pressure drop, pump station operating points, and operational setpoint recommendations
- Support leak detection tuning by supplying hydraulic insights (linepack, thermal effects, meter uncertainty) and validating alarms against operating scenarios
- Assist with automation & measurement initiatives: instrumentation documentation, device configuration, calibration/validation, and data quality checks
- Troubleshoot SCADA and field data issues affecting hydraulic models, leak detection performance, and measurement accuracy
- Create/refine process flow diagrams, hydraulic schematics, data flows, document assumptions, and validation steps
- Develop comprehensive reports that outline project estimates, including cost analysis, resource allocation, and timelines following regulatory and corporate compliance practices.
- Participate in design reviews, vendor meetings, and field visits, as appropriate, to connect design with operational realities
- Actively enrolled in an accredited Engineering program (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Civil, Software & Computer, Energy), Computer Science, or a related discipline, with a minimum of four academic terms completed by the start date
- Enrolled at an accredited pos-secondary institution and returning for at least one additional semester after the work term
- International students must hold valid study permits and post-secondary work placement documentation

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the capacity to work effectively in collaborative, cross functional environments
Preferred Qualifications
Note: Applicants do not need to have the qualifications below to be considered for the role.- Academic or project experience in fluid mechanics, pipeline hydraulics, process control, and data analysis
- Proficiency in at least one programming language such as VB, C#, SQL, or Python
- Familiarity with hydraulic modeling tools (steady-state and transient) and SCADA concepts
- Project Management skills and/or experience with agile methodologies, including the ability to adapt and reprioritize based on evolving business needs
- Competence in using Microsoft Project.
- Experience creating data visualizations and reports using tools like Power BI, Excel, or comparable platforms
