Location: This position is onsite at Dan E. Karn 3 & 4 located in Essexville, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).


General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Supervisor, Production, is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a generation facility by coordinating and supervising the daily activities of operations, production, or support teams. The incumbent will establish priorities to ensure timely task completion and coordinate work activities with other supervisors. Decisions and problem‑solving activities are guided by established policies, procedures, safety culture, and business plan objectives.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Lead and participate in various operating reviews and problem‑solving events.

- Recommend changes and enhancements to facility systems, operations, and maintenance. Prepare and maintain reports of completed job orders and those in progress. Utilize enterprise software systems effectively.

- Understand company and departmental metrics and goals; create and update visual management tools; apply lean methods to identify waste elimination opportunities; document and drive improvements to completion, including cost‑savings and automation initiatives. Consult operations leadership on budget needs.

- Complete administrative tasks such as time sheet approval, Equivalent Straight Time accounting, and timely completion of Read and Sign requirements for procedure and policy updates. Request and reserve on‑call resources and participate in the on‑call rotation. Oversee acquisition, distribution, inspection, testing, and replacement of Personal Protective Equipment.

- Respond to employee concerns and information requests. Provide guidance on equipment and system performance issues, including instruction on complex, infrequently performed, or potentially hazardous work. Collaborate with employees and support groups. Inspect work activities and directly lead operating evolutions to ensure appropriate performance, progress, and completion.

- Supervise bargaining unit employees in the operation of power generation equipment and in maintaining equipment integrity. Provide education and oversight for contractors. Plan, organize, train, and direct operations personnel to achieve high-quality and efficient work performance. Lead or participate in special projects as assigned. Administer the Union Contract, company policies, procedures, and departmental guidelines. Provide active coaching and development for employees.

- Coordinate with cross‑functional support groups regarding work management priorities, execution of evolutions, and support needs. Serve as the first line of troubleshooting for equipment malfunctions. Investigate and identify equipment or system deficiencies and collaborate with Maintenance or other support groups for resolution.

- Perform other duties as assigned or as necessary.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

- Working knowledge and application of the Union Contract for bargaining unit employees

- Strong leadership acumen

- Effective communication skills

- Ability to adhere to the provisions of the Union Contract

- Knowledge of power plant operations, procedures, systems, and equipment

- Knowledge of safety requirements, work methods, work processes, and related technologies

- Thorough understanding of scheduling processes


Education/Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, skilled trade, or related discipline, and at least two (2) years of experience demonstrating technical knowledge in power plant operations or similar industrial operations

- [OR] Associate’s degree in a technical field, skilled trade, or related discipline, and at least four (4) years of relevant technical experience

- [OR] High School Diploma with at least six (6) years of experience demonstrating technical knowledge in power plant operations or similar industrial operations

- Training for the position will occur during normal business hours.

- The backshift position offers some flexibility regarding start and end times.

- Backshift coverage is negotiable during non‑run seasons.
