Magna Mining’s key objective is to become the next nickel and copper producing company in Canada by executing a growth strategy that is focused exclusively on the historic nickel producing district of Sudbury, ON.
We intend to achieve this objective via the creation of a Sudbury focused, hub and spoke production model, with our existing Shakespeare project as the hub. The path to the creation of a significant new battery metals producing Canadian company is to execute a long term, multi-faceted growth strategy.
The Supervisor, Underground Operations is responsible for delivering sustainable and reliable mine operations at one of Magna Mining Inc.’s mine sites. This includes supervising underground crews, managing resources, and promoting a safety-first culture.
All Magna Mining team members are expected to work collaboratively with others, lead the way in health and safety, act with honesty, integrity, and foster an entrepreneurial spirit in pursuit of excellence.
- Supervise day-to-day underground mining activities.
- Monitor compliance with mine plans, production targets, and safety standards.
- Ensure safe work practices are followed and that all workers comply with regulatory and company policies (OHSA, MTCU, WSIB, etc.).
- Conduct daily pre-shift safety meetings, inspections, and workplace exams.
- Assign tasks to crew members based on skills, qualifications, and production priorities.
- Report and investigate incidents, near misses, and hazards. Implement corrective actions.
- Coordinate maintenance and use of underground mobile equipment and tools.
- Maintain accurate records of shift activities, production data, equipment use, and timekeeping.
- Communicate effectively with technical services, maintenance, and surface operations teams.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate underground personnel and apprentices.
- Promote a proactive safety culture across all underground operations and lead by example.
- Conduct and participate in safety audits, inspections, incident investigations, and emergency response drills.
- Control operational costs and labor efficiency.
- Grade 12 education or equivalent.
- Post-secondary education in a mining related field is considered an asset.
- 7 or more years of mine operations experience.
- 2 or more years of experience in a leadership role.
- Excellent leadership, communication and organization skills.
- Sound knowledge of underground mining methods.
- Familiarity with mining regulations, occupational health and safety practices and emergency response.
- Proven ability to successfully lead teams in a dynamic and physically demanding environment.
- Established analytical and problem-solving skills.
