ISO New England is the independent system operator responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable flow of electricity in our region and planning for the future of the electric grid. We are at the forefront of New England’s ongoing transition to clean energy.
Internship Title- Database Automation Engineer - PLEXOS API Improvements
Department – Planning Services
Minimum Education level: Senior
Preferred Majors: Economics, Data Analytics, Electrical Engineering
Love coding, databases, and solving real-world problems? Join ISO New England’s Economic Studies and Environmental Outlook Team and help improve the PLEXOS API while designing an SQL database to store and query large volumes of power system data. You’ll build automation tools, organize complex datasets, and learn how to make raw data ready for quick analysis and comparison.
This internship is perfect for students who enjoy Python and SQL, love problem-solving, and want hands-on experience in database design and architecture. You’ll gain technical skills, work on meaningful projects that support the power grid, and see how your work helps plan the future of New England’s electricity system.
Who we are
ISO New England is one of the most pivotal energy companies you’ve probably never heard of. Our job is to oversee the 24/7 operation of the power grid that covers the six-states of New England and to administer the region’s $10+ billion “stock exchange” for buying and selling of wholesale electricity. Our work ensures that over 14 million people can reliably turn their lights on and complete their jobs, take care of their families, and live in comfort with convenience.
About The Department
The System Planning team ensures that New England’s transmission system can reliably deliver electricity under a wide range of future conditions, from the next operating season to the next decade. Within System Planning, the Economic Studies and Environmental Outlook Team performs economic analyses to inform stakeholders about future system scenarios and tracks environmental issues that could impact the power grid.
