Internship Title- Programmer
Department – Participant & External Transaction Applications
Minimum Education level: Senior
Preferred Majors: Computer Science
Put your coding skills to work building and enhancing applications that keep New England’s energy markets running reliably and efficiently.
Who we are
ISO New England is one of the most pivotal energy companies you may have never heard of. Our job is to oversee the 24/7 operation of the power grid that covers the six states of New England and to administer the region’s $10+ billion “stock exchange” for buying and selling of wholesale electricity. Our work ensures that over 14 million people can reliably turn their lights on and complete their jobs, take care of their families, and live in comfort with convenience.
About the Department
The Participant and External Transaction Applications team develops and maintains applications that enable participants and stakeholders to interact with ISO New England’s markets and systems. The team builds critical software solutions that support business operations, system reliability, and user engagement.
About the Internship
We are seeking a motivated Programmer Intern to join our team for Summer 2026. This internship offers two potential project paths, depending on the intern’s interest and career goals:
1. Generative AI Project Path – Explore how well Generative AI can generate HTML, UIs, and persistent layers, assessing its usefulness and reliability for real-world applications.
2. Professional Programmer Path – Write production-quality code, contributing directly to applications deployed in ISO’s production environment.
Whichever path you choose, you will gain hands-on experience in software design, coding, and testing. You will work as a contributing member of the team, alongside experienced software professionals, with opportunities for mentorship and skill development.
How You’ll Make an Impact
You’ll help design and enhance applications that support market participants and external transactions, contributing to the smooth and efficient operation of New England’s energy markets.
