The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is recruiting a Student, Compliance Auditor – Emissions to join our team of professionals in the Regulatory Compliance (RC) Branch. In this role, you will focus on air emissions audits within the Production & Emissions Compliance team, supporting compliance assurance activities related to industry operations. You will gain exposure to the challenges of emissions management, help influence positive change, and contribute to efforts that reduce climate impacts. This position also offers opportunities to strengthen your data analysis skills and expand your understanding of a broad range of oil and gas operations.
- Conduct audits to verify compliance with regulatory requirements related to air emissions.
- Assess site and equipment venting limits, fugitive emissions, methane emissions data quality, and methane reduction performance.
- Work within a multidisciplinary team, gaining exposure to a variety of specialties.
- Support additional assignments and projects as required.
- Currently enrolled in the second year or higher of a Bachelor’s degree program in science, environmental studies, engineering, oil and gas, or a related field.
- Ability to use advanced features in MS Excel, SQL queries, or VBA macros is an asset.
- Experience with conducting audits, oil and gas operations, and/or Directive 060 is an asset.
- Strong organizational skills, including maintaining clear documentation and prioritizing work based on risk and value.
- Strong communication skills, using clear and concise language and active listening to understand different viewpoints.
- Proof of enrollment in a registered post-secondary institution including enrollment in the semester following the work term, or enrollment in a registered co-op program will be a condition of hire.
