POSITION SUMMARY:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the seamless financial operations of MasTec Canada. This includes supporting the Controller and other internal departments throughout the organization with timely and accurate financial reporting. This is a fantastic opportunity for a professional who thrives in a busy workplace and is adept at learning and utilizing ERP systems. Preference will be given to those candidates living in and around Edmonton, AB. The position is office-based at a specific address. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:* Review and analyze general ledger accounts and prepare journal entries as part of the month end and year end close processes
•Record monthly bank transactions and prepare bank reconciliations
•Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations and monthly financial package(s)
•Prepare future monthly forecasts in the SGA budget with YTD, QTD and MTD variances
•Conduct GST and PST reconciliation and return preparation
•Build and maintain the cash flow forecast and provide weekly updates to the Controller and VP, Finance
•Prepare documentation for external and client audit requests
•Respond to information requests from Management and for auditing purposes
•Prepare ad hoc reports and analysis for Management as requested to aid in decision-making
•Maintain accounting controls by following policies in accordance with The Sarbanes Oxley Act
•Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:* Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related discipline is required
•Minimum 1-2 years of accounting experience
•Experience in construction industry and with construction ERP systems considered an asset
•Working towards a CPA designation is considered an asset
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:* Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for promoting and living out MasTec Canada’s 6 Core Values
•Proficiency with Microsoft programs with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel
•Previous experience using Viewpoint Vista system is an asset
