Job Summary:
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of the company by preparing and maintaining accurate financial records, performing account reconciliations, assisting with month-end and year-end close processes, and preparing internal financial reports. This role reports to the VP of Finance and works closely with the accounting team to ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal controls. This position may be based out of our Watford City or Williston.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Daily / Weekly Tasks:
•Record and review Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable transactions
•Process chargebacks and inventory billing to customers
•Maintain and reconcile purchase order tracking systems
•Perform daily bank transactions, prepare deposits, and complete cash applications
•Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies
•Support general ledger maintenance and transaction accuracy
Monthly Tasks:
•Prepare and submit sales and use tax reports
•Reconcile general ledger accounts, payables, and bank statements
•Assist in the month-end close process, including journal entries
Annual Tasks:
•Assist in the preparation of 1099 filings
•Support year-end close procedures and audit preparation
•Monitor and assist with state contractor license renewals and insurance documentation
As Needed:
•Maintain company fuel systems
•Perform collection activities for outstanding receivables
Required Skills/Abilities:
•Solid understanding of GAAP and accounting principles
•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
•Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and reporting
•High attention to detail and accuracy
•Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
•Strong written and verbal communication skills
Education and Experience:
Required:
•High school diploma or equivalent
•Associate’s in applied science in Accounting, related field, or equivalent work experience.
•Minimum 2 years of experience in an accounting roles
•Strong organizational and time management skills
•Working knowledge of accounting systems and procedures
Preferred:
•Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field
•3–5 years of experience in a Staff Accountant or similar role
•Experience in the construction, manufacturing, or oil & gas industry
•Experience with QuickBooks and other accounting platforms
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to perform standard office tasks including prolonged periods sitting at a desk, working on a computer, and occasionally lifting up to 30 pounds unassisted. Some travel may be required to other office locations or job sites.
Work Environment:
This role is primarily office-based with occasional visits to job sites. The noise level can vary and may include periods in louder work environments.
