At CVE, a Project Developer is responsible for directing the development of the company’s solar energy projects, with the goal of bringing each project in his/her pipeline to ‘NTP’ (notice to proceed). The Developer’s activities are centered around identifying the steps needed and coordinating and deploying the resources necessary for the successful progression of projects from origination or acquisition through to handover to CVE’s construction and finance teams.
- Taking over projects that have passed the site origination phase.
- Spearheading efforts to get the projects’ administrative, environmental and regulatory authorizations and permits from the various stakeholders (owners, municipalities, governments, utilities).
- Coordinating technical studies with our internal engineering resources and external consultants
- Attending local approval meetings with town, planning and zoning boards.
- Monitoring the economic feasibility and profitability of projects, ensuring each meets the group requirements. Suggesting and implementing appropriate actions to maximize the economic benefits of projects.
- Providing research and recommendations on the geographic areas and characteristics of projects CVE North America should prioritize, based on experience of developing renewable energy projects and knowledge of various states’ energy policies, regulations and market dynamics.
- Assisting in the evaluation of potential acquisition projects/portfolios and preparation of bids/offers in tandem with CVE’s M&A team
- Monitoring the development budget of each project.
- Preparing portfolio status reports, contributing to the structuring of the development process and improving the monitoring and planning tools in use.
- Selling CVE’s approach, image, values and vision to local communities in order to win their support for our projects and associated benefits. Establishing long term and trusting relationships with all stakeholders of CVE North America; living by the company values.
- For corporate PPA projects, negotiating and concluding contracts with clients, notably the sales of electricity (PPA) and/or other related products and services.
- Assisting in the preparation and population of data-rooms with documents required for project finance.
- At the end of the development cycle, organizing a hand-off meeting with the construction team and delivering final, accurate and comprehensive documents and permits.
- Originating new opportunities through traditional greenfield prospecting (using GIS and other tools) as well as direct contacts with commercial and industrial clients, municipalities, etc. and business intermediaries such as consultants, brokers and co-developers.
- Negotiating terms of options, leases and outright purchases of land for CVE solar projects, as needed.
- Auditing, bidding and negotiating the projects for sale, coordinating with CVE’s M&A team.
- Following up on the data-room, reviewing legal and technical documents.
This position reports to the Director of Business Development for CVE North America
As a Solar Project Developer, you will be accountable for part of CVE North America’s objectives.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in project development of renewable energy assets, , including solar and storage, with a clear track record of success.
- Specific experience in the Midwest, mid-Atlantic and Northeast a plus
- Experience developing projects for different channels such as Community, C&I, utility, behind and in front of meter, stand-alone storage.
- Demonstrated success in prospecting and identifying new markets, in contract negotiation, leading them to completion.
- Excellent interpersonal skills – strong listening capacity and an ability to communicate with multiple stakeholders; capable of inspiring, coaching and managing a project team around a common goal
- Independent, accountable and well organized, capable of grasping the complexity of all elements related to solar projects and pursuing multiple projects at various stages of development concurrently.
