The Automotive Service Manager oversees the daily operations of the service department (specializing in Class V through Class VIII utility and OTR trucks/trailers), ensuring efficient workflow, high-quality repairs, and exceptional customer service. This role manages service advisors, technicians, and support staff while working closely with customers to address their vehicle maintenance and repair needs.
- Supervise and lead the service department team, including technicians, service advisors, and support personnel.
- Schedule repair work and assign duties to technicians based on skill and availability.
- Ensure timely and accurate diagnosis and repair of customer vehicles.
- Maintain strong customer relationships and handle service-related complaints or escalations.
- Monitor service productivity and ensure repairs meet company standards and OEM guidelines.
- Coordinate with parts and sales departments to ensure seamless operations.
- Track and manage department KPIs: customer satisfaction, labor hours, efficiency, and revenue.
- Oversee warranty claims and ensure proper documentation for reimbursement.
- Recruit, train, and evaluate service staff; conduct performance reviews.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Manage budgets, control costs, and seek opportunities for revenue growth.
- High school diploma or GED (Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology or Business preferred).
- 3–5 years of experience in an automotive service management or supervisory role.
- Strong technical knowledge of automotive repair and diagnostics.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Familiarity with dealership management systems (e.g., CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds).
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- ASE Certification or manufacturer-specific certifications
- Knowledge of service department budgeting, scheduling, and labor management.
- Experience handling OEM warranty procedures and documentation.
- Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and tools as needed. (Lift over 50lbs)
- Be able to bend, kneel, stand, and crouch for long periods of time.
