Senior Safety Oversight Officer / HSE Superintendent – Open Pit Mining

The Senior Safety Oversight Officer is responsible for providing professional leadership and oversight of health, safety, and environmental performance within an open pit mining operation. The role ensures compliance with Guyana mining and occupational safety regulations, company HSE standards, and international best practices, while promoting a strong and proactive safety culture across the operation.
The position acts as a key advisor to mine management, supporting safe execution of all open pit activities including drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, and maintenance. Responsibilities include hazard identification, risk assessment, site inspections, incident investigation, and monitoring the implementation of corrective actions. The role also supports contractor safety management, workforce safety training, and ongoing safety performance reporting.
The Senior Safety Oversight Officer contributes to emergency preparedness planning and ensures effective response capability for incidents relevant to open pit mining operations. Strong leadership, communication, and practical field experience are essential for influencing safe behaviors at all levels of the workforce.
Requirements
A minimum of 10 years’ experience in safety roles within open pit mining operations is required. A degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Mining, or a related discipline is preferred, along with strong knowledge of Guyana mining regulations and recognized HSE management systems. Professional safety certifications are an asset.
