Position Summary

The Senior OT Engineer in Refining Digital Operations for the Martinez Refinery will provide operational and technical support for the Martinez refinery Operational Technology (OT) server and network environments. The successful candidate must understand business requirements and translate these requirements into solutions. The position must work collaboratively with the Process Control and Operation groups to seek solutions to problems. The position must champion compliance and change efforts which result in improved reliability and security of infrastructure services. It is expected that the candidate will always follow the refinery personnel safety requirements.

This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency, and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.


Key Responsibilities

- Identifies performance bottlenecks, conducts root cause analysis, and proposes and implements solutions to enhance system performance and resource utilization. Establishes performance benchmarks, conducts capacity planning, and collaborates with other teams to optimize infrastructure performance. Collaborates with junior engineers & cross-functional teams to implement performance tuning strategies and optimize system resources for better efficiency.

- Contributes to the development and improvement of troubleshooting procedures, measures to minimize system downtime, and documentation. Leads and manages technical support activities and troubleshooting efforts for infrastructure, including handling escalated and complex issues. Leads vendor technical support to drive for resolutions. Performs advanced system tuning and optimization to maximize performance using IT Service Management practices. Collaborates with internal teams to enhance support processes and methodologies.

- Analyzes performance and utilization data to identify trends and patterns; provides recommendations for optimization and corrective actions to drive for continuous improvement; prepares comprehensive reports on infrastructure performance.

- Leads the design and configuration of complex hardware and software systems, considering best practices and industry standards. Builds and deploys highly available and scalable infrastructure solutions.

- Leads the creation and maintenance of a comprehensive knowledge base for infrastructure-related topics, including troubleshooting guides, configuration documentation, and best practices. Promotes knowledge sharing culture by organizing training sessions, mentoring junior engineers, and encouraging cross-team collaboration.

- Collaborates with the process Owner and identifies trends in issues and determines the root cause to reduce future issues.

- Executes the regular analysis and interpretation of traffic and utilization of services on network connections.

- Leads the improvement recommendations and presents effectively to senior and executive management and global teams. Presents and leads client meetings with the business and development teams. Communicates with senior leaders for understanding and execution of cross functional complex processes and applications to solve for client requirements.


Education and Experience

- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, related field or equivalent experience.

- 5 or more years of relevant experience required.

- Network Administration – Organizing, installing, and supporting the organization's computer systems, including local area networks LANs, wide area networks (WANs), network segments, intranets, and other data communication systems.

- Policy Management – The process of creating, implementing and maintaining policies and procedures within an organization.

- Service Delivery Management – The manner in which an organization provides users access to IT services, which include applications, data storage and other business resources.

- System Administration – Performs a variety of functions including user management, system monitoring, system configuration, performance tuning, backup and recovery, and access control.

- System Testing – The process of testing conducted on a complete integrated system to evaluate the system's compliance with its specified requirements.

- Systems Design – The process of designing technical solutions and systems to meet specified business and user requirements that are compatible with established system architectures, as well as organizational and performance standards.

- Troubleshooting – The act or process of discovering and resolving problems, disputes, or mechanical issues through a systematic, usually iterative, approach.

- Vendor Management – The process to maintain relationships with key vendors that deliver products, services, and support to the business. Simultaneously, negotiating and managing contracts with key service providers to ensure service levels are set appropriately and met on an ongoing basis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, related field or equivalent experience.

5+ years of relevant experience required
