Position Summary
Under limited supervision the Senior Financial Reporting Accountant is responsible for working with the financial reporting team to produce timely and accurate financial statements, reports and disclosures under GAAP. Additionally, this role is responsible for obtaining required information that supports financial reporting to ensure compliance with GAAP and the company’s internal controls. The position may also review and approve various deliverables of the accounting team as needed. This position reports directly to the Director-Financial Reporting in the Denver office.
Essential Responsibilities
• Actively engage in and support the monthly close process by creating journal entries, preparing accounting reconciliations and rolling forward monthly and quarterly files.
• Review and approve journal entries and account reconciliations prepared by the team.
• Contribute to the financial reporting process by performing financial statement tie-outs, rolling forward workpapers and gathering support and inputs needed by the team.
• Critically evaluate the various inputs for financial reporting to ensure completeness and accuracy. Research, correct and report to manager any discrepancies.
• Responsible for the quarterly evaluation of ASC 842 – lease accounting and resulting journal entries.
• Prepare schedules that present revenues and expenses and well as costs that are non-recurring (one-time in nature) in support for our FP&A activities.
• Prepare the monthly LOS reports as well as any ad hoc LOS reporting as requested by the team.
• Partner with team to ensure timely calculation of the company’s ARO process ensuring accurate outcomes and thoroughly documented process memos.
• Support interim and annual audits by gathering control support, obtaining certification signatures, updating process narratives and obtaining required documents for our external auditors (PBC requests).
• Maintain accounting related systems and processes, including but not limited to the company’s chart of accounts and BA maintenance.
• Manage the vendor change maintenance process ensuring appropriate workflows are in place and being completed in a timely manner.
• Maintain respectful and productive working relationships within and across all work groups, ensuring effective collaboration and cooperation.

Other Duties
• Complete or ensure the completion of the Census reporting support.
• Proactively mitigate risk for the company by documenting business processes (desk manual format).
• Partner with legal team to prepare the annual Wyoming reporting.
• Partner with accounting leadership to help cover responsibilities when members of the team are on vacation or require assistance to meet deadlines.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned to support the success of the department and company

• Knowledge of oil and gas industry accounting.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Tax or Finance
• 6+ years’ experience in accounting
• 3+ years’ experience in Oil & Gas accounting

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Previous accounting experience in Oil and Gas Exploration & Production
• Experience with Quorum or similar accounting system
