Scale Operator / Yard Worker / Forklift Operator

Experience operating a hilo is a very big plus; prior experience with ferrous materials not necessary but would be helpful.

Basic Metals operates Metro Detroit's best scrap metal recycling yards. We have our own in-house trucking fleet and maintenance operation, as well as two fully outfitted scrap yards. We specialize in commercial and industrial production scrap recycling as well as open to the public service yards.

Basic Metals is looking to add a member to it's team! We're looking to fill an immediate opening to work in our Ferrous yard at our New Haven, MI scrap yard for one motivated and passionate person looking to join the team! Basic has been Michigan-owned and operated since 2006, and we are a family-oriented company that prides itself on taking great care of our people. This person would be responsible for identifying and grading of various inbound truckloads of scrap metal, monitoring the flow of inbound and outbound loads communicating with the rest of staff to best assist with the operation, unloading of scrap metal with the hilo, as well as other various work around the yard.

Prior knowledge or experience within a scrap yard would be helpful but not at all necessary, we're willing to educate and train you. Experience operating a hilo or other equipment could also come in handy.

Qualifications:

- Must be able to work efficiently without direct supervision.

- Friendly and personable attitude capable of successfully interacting with customers daily.

- Must be able to take direction and execute plans effectively.

- Must build and maintain a good knowledge of scrap material grades of non-ferrous materials, upgradable availability of those materials.

- Ability to work outdoor environment year round.

- Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 pounds.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $14.00 - $19.00 per hour
