The Reservoir/Petroleum Engineer plays a key technical role supporting Parex’s operated assets across Colombia, contributing to the company’s growth and operational excellence. This position is responsible for reservoir and production engineering analysis, forecasting, field development planning, and the evaluation of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and emerging technologies. The role provides exposure to a diverse portfolio of reservoirs and operating environments across multiple basins.
- Review relevant analogue data to identify and quantify potential value-creation opportunities across existing assets.
- Provide reservoir engineering support for Parex’s operated fields across the full asset portfolio.
- Prepare and deliver technical analyses and presentations to internal stakeholders and partners to support budget approvals and ensure alignment with operational and production targets.
- Perform detailed reservoir engineering analyses of pressure and production data, including data compilation, quality control, and effective data management.
- Participate in reservoir engineering studies, including reservoir simulation, production characterization, and EOR screening and scoping.
- Provide production engineering support to monitor, evaluate, and optimize well and field performance.
- Conduct regular well and field performance reviews to identify trends, risks, optimization opportunities, and development potential.
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of reservoir characteristics, rock and fluid properties, drilling and completion techniques, production practices, facilities requirements, testing programs, and project economics.
- Generate robust short-, medium-, and long-term production forecasts to support corporate planning and decision-making.
- Evaluate, pilot, and support the implementation of EOR methods and new technologies.
- Provide reservoir engineering input into drilling, completion, and workover proposals, if needed.
- Collaborate closely within multi-disciplinary teams to deliver base business objectives and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
- Minimum of Bachelor of Science in Reservoir or Petroleum Engineering.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive technical oil and gas experience within an exploration and production company.
- Understanding of reservoir engineering basics, with good knowledge of reservoir drive mechanisms and different recovery methods.
- Working knowledge of PTA/RTA, PVT and phase behaviour, and SCAL/RCAL is useful; advanced expertise in these areas is an asset.
- Previous experience in conventional reservoirs or conventional heavy oil reservoirs is a plus.
- Familiarity with industry-standard software, with experience in CMG and Schlumberger’s INTERSECT, are considered strong assets.
- Previous international work experience is an asset.
- Experience across both major and intermediate operating companies is preferred.
- Working knowledge of geology, operations, production, wellbores, pipelines and facilities.
- Strong aptitude for working with computers/database systems, with the ability to learn new applications quickly.
- High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Ability to follow specific processes and instructions, remain open to feedback, and work independently.
- Ability to be innovative and solve problems effectively, with an end goal of improving processes to increase efficiencies.
- Proven aptitude to effectively manage multiple tasks and changing priorities, often under pressure and within time constraints.
- Spanish written and verbal language skills are an asset.
This position is located in our Corporate Headquarters at 2700 Eighth Ave Place, West Tower in Calgary, Alberta T2P 1G1, Canada.
Parex has an in-office work schedule Monday to Thursday (in support of fostering team integration and cross-functional collaboration), with the option to work remotely from home on Friday.
