We are seeking a detail-oriented Research Technician to support laboratory operations and experimental workflows. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in microbiology, aseptic technique, anaerobic cultivation, and general lab maintenance. This role will report to a Research Scientist or similar role and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to ensure reliable data generation and sample integrity.
- Prepare, sterilize, and maintain laboratory equipment and workspaces according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Perform routine custodial tasks (e.g., glassware cleaning, waste disposal, inventory management) to uphold a safe, compliant lab environment.
- Formulate and sterilize growth media for various microbial cultures, under appropriate supervision.
- Inoculate, monitor, and harvest cultures under strict aseptic and anaerobic conditions, under appropriate supervision.
- Assist with setup, execution, and documentation of experiments.
- Collect and analyze samples using/for chromatography, gas analysis, and other analytical methods.
- Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks and electronic records adhering to GLP standards.
- Perform routine data entry, QC checks, and preliminary data analysis using software tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, python or other coding tools for data analysis).
- Generate clear plots, tables, and reports summarizing experimental outcomes.
- Follow all safety protocols, SOPs, and waste-handling procedures.
- Participate in safety audits and trainings.
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 1–2 years of hands-on laboratory experience, preferably in microbiology or bioprocessing
- Proficiency in aseptic technique and sterile media preparation
- Demonstrated experience handling anaerobic cultures (e.g., anaerobic chamber)
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Prior involvement in clean energy, biohydrogen, or biogas research projects
- Experience with DNA techniques (e.g., PCR, gel electrophoresis, basic molecular cloning)
- Certification in laboratory safety
- Laboratory setting with exposure to microbial cultures, chemicals, and pressurized gas systems
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to biosafety level protocols
- Capacity to lift and move up to 25 lbs. (e.g., reagent bottles, equipment)
