We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven business development expert to join our team. The Regional Business Development Manager will be responsible for new revenue generation in the inland marine industry across the region they serve. The position is responsible to negotiate acceptable profit margins and educate customers on solutions to meet their transportation needs. The ideal candidate will be expected to identify and build new relationships and position the company’s services, along with leveraging their existing relationships in the industry to expand revenue growth.
· Identify and develop new inland marine accounts and opportunities in various transportation modes; ocean chartering, containers, barge, truck, rail and ship agency.
· Responsible and accountable for lead generation. Develop new business prospects into new business for the company.
· Conduct market analysis to identify trends, competitive landscape, and potential areas for growth.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to learn and align business development strategies with overall company goals.
· Maintain close working relationships with the Operations team.
· Establish, in collaboration with leadership, a comprehensive business development plan and execute plan.
· Communicate effectively with prospects and clients; interface includes face to face meetings, phone calls, email and cold calls.
. Prepare client/prospect presentations, negotiate contracts, and provide excellent professional customer service.
· Responsible for the management and handling of RFQ response documents.
· Build and maintain relationships with key transportation and service providers.
· Cross sell customer base to develop full account potential across all transportation modes: barge, ocean, truck and rail.
· Utilize internal CRM software tool for tracking leads, managing customer interactions, and reporting on sales performance.
· Meet and/or exceed sales targets, objectives, and goals
. Bachelor’s Degree, Marine, Maritime, or Supply Chain degrees a plus.
. Previous logistics/transportation sales experience across multiple modes of transportation. Inland marine sales experience highly preferred.
. Established presence in a key regional transportation hub preferred.
· Ability to travel/cover territory; estimated overnight travel is 50%.
· Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) required.
· Able to uncover and understand the client’s business needs to solve their problems
· Present a professional image at all times to customers, prospects, vendors, and team
· Diplomatic skills to be used in customer and vendor interactions
· Confidence preparing and presenting to groups of people
· Analytic skills to review and evaluate financial and operational data
· Proven negotiation skills combined with the ability to close business deals
· Maintain proficiency in leveraging technology, systems, and sales tools to drive efficiency and accelerated sales growth
