We are seeking a results-driven Business Development Manager to lead strategic initiatives and drive revenue growth within the utilities and energy infrastructure market. This role is ideal for a mid- to senior-level professional with demonstrated success in developing client relationships, identifying market opportunities, and supporting long-term business strategies in engineering or energy sectors.
Key Responsibilities
•Identify and pursue new business opportunities with utility companies, municipalities, electric cooperatives, renewable developers, energy solution providers, as well as C&I clients.
•Responsible for lead development and pipeline management utilizing CRM, networking, and/or B2B tools.
•Develop and maintain strong client relationships to expand Commonwealth’s presence in transmission, distribution, substation, generation and renewable infrastructure markets.
•Seek out and foster strategic relationships with subconsultants and contractors, especially in the EPC sector, to increase opportunity volume and gain new market penetration.
•Lead and support internal teams with market insights, proposal strategy, pursuit planning, and contract negotiations.
•Coordinate and participate in promotional activities, including representing Commonwealth at conferences, trade shows, and networking events.
•Collaborate with internal stakeholders—including engineering, project management, and executive teams—to align business development efforts with execution capabilities.
•Analyze industry trends, market conditions, and competitor positioning to inform pricing and growth strategies.
•Own and manage opportunities throughout all stages of the sales lifecycle while providing support during project execution and closeout as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
•5-10 years of experience in business development within engineering, energy, construction or other infrastructure sectors with an emphasis on serving electric utility clientele in the western US.
•Proven ability to identify and win new opportunities, build client trust, and contribute to aggressive market growth.
•Deep working knowledge of utility industry practices, procurement processes, organizational structure, operations, capital planning, and project delivery models.
•Exceptional communication and presentation skills; able to represent technical services to executives and non-technical audiences.
•Strong contract acumen with the ability to identify/mitigate risk and lead negotiations of commercial terms
•Hunter mindset with the demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross functional teams and independently to achieve revenue targets.
•Willingness to travel nationally to strengthen client relationships, build partnership alliances, and attend industry events as needed for pipeline development
•Possessing solid relationships and contacts in the utility/electric industry is a plus
