Job Overview
The Dimensional QC Inspector is responsible for verifying that fabricated steel components conform to approved shop drawings, erection drawings, and applicable codes and standards. This role ensures dimensional accuracy, proper orientation, and overall compliance with AISC, AWS, and project-specific requirements prior to shipment or installation.
- Perform dimensional inspections of fabricated steel components prior to release.
- Verify overall geometry, hole patterns, member orientation, and weld-related distortion.
- Interpret shop and erection drawings to confirm design intent and proper field fit-up.
- Measure components using calibrated inspection tools and verify compliance with specified tolerances.
- Identify nonconforming conditions and initiate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
- Tag and segregate nonconforming material to prevent unintended shipment.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for dimensional discrepancies.
- Reinspect repaired or reworked items and document compliance for NCR closeout.
- Coordinate with fabrication, detailing, and welding personnel to resolve dimensional issues.
- Collect and analyze measurement data to identify deviations from quality standards and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain detailed inspection records, logs, and reports for traceability and compliance purposes.
- Support manufacturing teams by providing timely feedback on dimensional issues to facilitate continuous improvement.
- Assist in calibration of measurement instruments to ensure ongoing accuracy and reliability.
- Strong ability to read and interpret shop drawings and erection drawings (mandatory)
- Proficiency in dimensional measurement using calibrated tools (mandatory), including :
- Tape measures
- Framing and combination squares
- Levels and straightedges
- Working knowledge of dimensional tolerances per AISC, AWS, and project specifications.
- Ability to identify fabrication-related dimensional issues (mandatory), including:
- Out-of-square members
- Weld shrinkage and distortion
- Camber and sweep deviations
- Misaligned or incorrectly spaced holes
- Experience generating and managing Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
- Basic spatial reasoning skills to translate 2D drawings into 3D assemblies.
Qualifications that are a PLUS (preferred, not required):
- Experience in structural or miscellaneous metals fabrication.
- Experience performing in-process and final dimensional inspections.
- Welding or fabrication background.
- Fit-up and assembly experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to speak Spanish.
- Ability to work in an active fabrication shop environment.
- Capable of lifting inspection tools and accessing large fabricated assemblies.
- Standing, walking, climbing, and measuring large steel components as required.
- Travel between shop locations is required (8–16 miles daily); mileage is reimbursed.
The successful applicant must have acceptable scores on Tape Measure Test, Personnel Potential Analysis Test, Aptitude Test and Drug Test.
SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday 8:30AM - 5:00 PM.
