Primary Purpose:
Provide accounting and analytical support to Director of Property Accounting as well as performing property accounting functions within the department including but not limited to reviewing the work of Accountants, running and preparing various reports, AFE project reviews, processing data requests, closing projects to plant, coordinating and updating departmental controls, policies and procedures, etc.
Responsibilities:
- Review work of accountants
- Day-to-day analysis and closing of capital construction projects to plant, retirement of assets as well as any transfer of assets
- Conduct depreciation analysis and reconciliations
- Prepare monthly Property reports for distribution to other departments
- Compile annual depreciation budget for Terminals
- Analyze contracts and leases for addition to lease software, process monthly lease close, post lease journal entries and reconcile lease accounts
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and other requirements of Sarbanes/Oxley
- Learn and apply various processes and systems within Property Accounting Department, included but not limited to CARS, PSA, Lawson Reports and the Lawson Query Tool
- Be a power user of KM’s financial software (Lawson) in the areas of activities, assets and journal entries
- Respond in a timely manner to data requests from internal and external auditors, Tax and others
- Develop and maintain a positive working relationship between and with customers, managers and outside departments
- Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy and professionalism
- Speak clearly, both in person and by telephone, using a high level of verbal skills and listen carefully
- Write effectively, and understand written communication
- Maintain a regular, dependable attendance, and high level of performance
- Maintain a high regard for personal safety, the safety of company assets and employees, and the general public
- May at times be required to work non-traditional hours, including holidays
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field is required
- A minimum of 5 years work experience in a fast-paced dynamic accounting environment
- Basic accounting knowledge of capital additions and retirements is desirable
- Must have a good working knowledge and experience with automated financial systems
- Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes, with the ability to identify and resolve simple to complex property accounting issues
- Ability to undertake large amounts of work in a prioritized and organized fashion, and to timely and successfully complete multiple tasks, often under strict deadlines
- Must be able to analyze events at the transaction level, and apply sound and consistent policies to those events
- Must be able to perform the required and expected duties with minimal supervision
- Ability to work with a team, take direction from supervisor, focus attention to details, follow work rules and adhere to established work schedules
- Must be self-motivated and detail oriented
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others
Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:
- Supervisory experience in Property Accounting or related area
- GAAP/FERC knowledge of Property Accounting is preferred
- Knowledge of ASC842 Lease Accounting
Supervisory Responsibility:
Direct oversight of 2-3 staff
- Position may be filled at various levels depending on experience and job skills of the successful candidate
