BC Hydro is looking for a candidate to provide leadership to ensure the overall fleet and vehicle solutions are “right-sized”
for BC Hydro’s needs while delivering optimal value through specific replacement plans.
Focus areas include: strategic planning to ensure the quantity, type and distribution of assets is meeting BC Hydro’s current
and future needs; oversight over Fleet’s capital delivery objectives; input in determining the acquisition strategy and
preparing short and medium range capital plans; cross-functional engagement to identify and validate end-user asset
needs; input into internal fleet policies; input and maintenance of fleet IT systems; and support to existing maintenance
engineering function as required.
We are looking for an individual with strong technical knowledge and business experience to build and manage an
enterprise-wide fleet capital and asset management program at BC Hydro. BC Hydro’s existing fleet currently consists of
approximately 3500 assets – made up of approximately 500 heavy, specialized vehicles, 1950 light & medium vehicles, and
1000 trailers and pieces of equipment. These assets are a critical component to ensuring overall electrical system reliability
to the ratepayers of British Columbia.
The successful candidate will be an integral part of the Fleet Asset Management group in Fleet Services. This position will
report to the Senior Asset Planning Lead and be based at the main Fleet headquarters in Surrey, British Columbia.
Accountabilities include:
- Significant input into the development of and execution of a multi-year strategic plan to ensure high performance and
- Strategic planning complete with short- and long-term demand planning through collaboration with stakeholder groups –
acting as facilitator and advisor leveraging subject matter expertise
- Update existing asset planning model to consider factors outside of basic replacement cycles – i.e. optimization /
- Development of annual capital plan for execution, complete with required supporting documentation and capital budget
- Development of rolling 3, 5, and 10-year capital forecasts based on integrated planning and collaboration
- Input into the establishment, maintenance, and updating of asset lifecycles in conjunction with maintenance engineering
- Procurement contract strategy (short and long range) for key vehicle and equipment acquisition & maintenance
- Input to existing Fleet IT systems (FleetSmart, Telematics, SharePoint, etc.)
- Proactively communicating and taking a team approach to working with other managers in BC - Hydro to ensure aligned
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as Business Analysis, Business administration, Economics or Operations
- Demonstrated experience using business intelligence and analytics tools to effectively deliver capital programs in the
- 8 years of related experience working within a large, complex organization with multiple internal stakeholders, or an
equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Candidates with lesser qualifications may be hired at a
lower-level position.
- Experience in project management and task coordination. Project Management Professional (PMP) designation will be
- Proven team player and relationship-builder with strong analytical, negotiation and communications skills with the ability to
take ownership of issues, initiate actions and make effective decisions
- The ideal candidate for this position has Asset Management experience (strategic asset / demand planning) preferably in
the fleet sector, including experience with fleet equipment and suppliers.
- High proficiency in Excel, Tableau or other database tools will also be considered an asset.
