Job Description
As a key member of the Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO), responsible for monitoring project costs, schedule performance, project document controls, project processes, and performing related analyses to support the strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting of project completion for variety of construction, electric/gas, Enterprise Technology or other projects, as assigned. Manages long-range project planning horizon to ensure processes, tools, budget, schedule, and resources are maximized.
We have two openings for Project Controllers—one supporting Enterprise Technology and one supporting Energy Resources.
- Enterprise Technology (ET) Project Delivery PMO The Enterprise Technology (ET) Project Delivery PMO leads the planning and execution of technology initiatives across the organization, emphasizing collaboration, process improvement, and strong stakeholder engagement. The ET PMO maintains standardized documentation, frameworks, dashboards, and reporting tools that drive transparency and strategic alignment. With a highly skilled team and a strong culture of continuous improvement, the PMO strengthens financial governance, supports portfolio insights, and ensures consistent project delivery. The group also fosters shared best practices, such as monthly capital forecasting focus days, to enhance accuracy, promote cross‑team learning, and ensure reliable data for leadership governance.
- Energy Resources Project Delivery PMO The Energy Resources Project Delivery (ERPD) PMO is responsible for delivering capital projects that support Avista’s hydroelectric and thermal generation facilities across the service territory. The team defines, promotes, and upholds standards for effective project management, providing technical leadership, strong front‑end planning, financial stewardship, scheduling, inspection oversight, and consistent project controls to ensure scope, schedule, budget, and regulatory compliance are met. It is a collaboration‑focused team committed to equipping project groups with standardized tools, templates, and resources that enable successful project outcomes.
- Develops and implements project controls and monitoring procedures to ensure achievement of project scope, schedule, and cost objectives.
- Maintains a master list of all assigned team EPMO projects. Including maintaining and administering project controls tools for all projects. This consolidated system links individual projects to the department portfolio and provides accurate and timely data.
- Uses knowledge and experience in project controls to update project and portfolio plans on a continual basis, working with stakeholders to maintain accurate information. Works closely with various Avista departments for planned outage scheduling and coordination of assets and work.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, engineers, leaders, general foremen and key stakeholders to maintain current project status and forecast project future performance.
- Facilitates regular stakeholder meetings illustrating project risks and deviations, highlighting areas of elevating risk, providing accurate project updates and making recommended corrective actions.
- Reviews results compared to schedules, planned spend, and project management process adherence in order to identify deviations from expected results and identify possible action plans.
- Project initiation scoping, schedule, cost baseline and document controls development. Facilitate joint project prioritization efforts within EPMO and assigned customer departments.
- Develops and disseminates reports highlighting budget/actuals, risk, project metrics, schedule and resource loading. Will be required to work closely with key stakeholders and resource managers for resource capacity planning, WBS development, budget and cost forecasting, process delivery process auditing, and support rate recovery filing and respective data request processes.
- May be required to assemble and lead a team of schedulers, document controls specialists, records specialists, and other similar core project controls support roles. Provides operational work direction and feedback.
- Responsible for system administrator tasks associated with developing, maintaining, and supporting project controls systems and tools.
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university in business, finance/accounting, project management or related discipline required
- Requires five plus years of relevant project management related experience such as Project Controls, Project Coordinator, Project Manager, etc. Of the five+ years required, three years preferred in construction or other technical project management experience- Project management certification required (e.g.: Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP), Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP), or Project Management Professional (PMP), etc.
- Proficient user of Excel (including pivot tables, formulas and data analysis) and project management software (e.g.: Primavera or equivalent)
- Effective and flexible written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate through graphics, data, project performance dashboarding
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills, process orientation and business savvy
- Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize a variety of tasks under strict deadlines and changing priorities
- Demonstrated experience with capital project delivery, financial forecasting/reporting, and project accounting required
- Demonstrated ability to work across multiple departments with key stakeholders, engineering, construction craft, operations, project management, functional area managers, and department leadership

Hiring Range: $96,517 to $126,439
Hybrid work options are available for this role. The successful candidate will be required to work at our Spokane, Washington headquarters at least 3 days per week including Mondays and Tuesdays with additional day(s) determined by the manager. To Apply

In compliance with state laws, we provide the full salary range for each position, along with the typical hiring range based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
