The Supply Chain Contracting Manager plays an integral role in leading the assessment and assisting with the management of contractual terms and conditions to mitigate financial, legal, and insurance risk for American Electric Power. The position is responsible for the development and improvement of American Electric Power’s contracting strategy and the implementation, monitoring, and management and communication for major capital equipment and services utilized. In addition, this position will also facilitate continuous improvement of the CLM system and lead training for the Procurement teams.

- Models and manages contractual language for major spend categories (i.e. large construction projects, major capital equipment, technology, and services)
- Coaches a team of professionals responsible for contract administration and analytics
- Facilitates training for Contracting, Sourcing, and internal stakeholders to demonstrate the interaction and importance of Contracting processes, policies and Legal language to maximize terms
- Leads complex and non-standard negotiations with suppliers to mitigate risk
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with Business Units, Sourcing, Legal, Insurance, Cyber, and Internal Audit stakeholders
- Recommends ways to minimize risks and ensure compliance with all legal and business practices (recommends contract strategies based on best practices and changing company needs)
- Identifies factors affecting non-advantageous and high-risk terms.
- Initiates meetings with Legal, Insurance, Cyber and Audit, to create contract language that defines adjustments based on the identified risks
- Monitors, reports, and maintains contracting metrics
- Manages risk and ensure business/compliance needs are accurately reflected in contracts
- Facilitates and is the first point of escalation for contract administration and business line contracting concerns
- Aids management in ensuring efficient CLM contracting processes that adhere to all applicable American Electric Power policies, procedures, and processes applicable to the purchase of goods and services
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or University, preferably in Engineering, Accounting, Finance, Supply Chain, Digital, Law, Business, Construction Management or other related field, and seven (7) or more years of progressive professional experience in contracting, contract management and contract negotiating, strategic sourcing, procurement, cost accounting, engineering, legal, and/or finance is required.
- Candidates with an advanced degree, MBA, or Doctorate, will be considered with five (5) or more years of related work experience, as stated above.
- Candidates with eleven (11) or more years of related work experience, as stated above, will be considered in lieu of degree.
- Superior communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and presentation skills, with strong influencing and persuasive talents.
- Demonstrated ability to be innovative, take initiative, lead and manage change.
- Experience negotiating substantially large and complex commercial agreements.
- Must be a proven expert in managing contracts directly and as a coach to others.
- Strong negotiation and project management skills required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
- Good interpersonal skills and communication with all levels of leadership required.
- Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently required.
- Solid verbal and written communication skills required.
