We are looking for a Principal Adviser – Land & Tenure to lead the development and implementation of strategic land access and approval processes that enable growth through exploration and project development.

This role is responsible for securing land access, mineral rights, and tenure in support of our expansion activities, while negotiating approvals with local, regional, and national governments, as well as third-party stakeholders.

Recognized as a subject matter expert, the Principal Adviser will provide high-level guidance and coaching on mineral titles, land acquisition, tenure management, and conveyancing, ensuring compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations across all land-related matters.

you will

- Manage the statutory processes to achieve the grant of mineral rights and land access.

- Develop and implement strategies for the acquisition and management of mineral rights, land tenure and land access and/or approvals processes.

- Negotiate land access agreement with third parties.

- Manage the permitting workstreams to enable RTXs field activities guiding project timelines and engaging to facilitate permit issuance by appropriate regulatory authorities

- Engage with government agencies in relation to approvals and prevailing government policy.

- Maintain approval processes and procedures to ensure compliance with land tenure and mineral rights obligations.

- Manage and maintain land use permits, bonds and access agreements in order to ensure compliance with applicable laws, agreements, and permits.

- Provide coaching and guidance on mineral rights and land access in the relevant jurisdictions.

- Work as a practioner within a multi-disciplinary team, including technical, legal, commercial and communities’ specialists.


What You’ll Bring

- A commitment to the safety of yourself and the wider team

- Bachelor’s degree in Geoscience, Environmental Engineering, Law, Public Policy, or related field (required).

- Strong experience in permitting and regulatory processes for exploration activities ranging from early grassroots permitting to advanced studies

- Proven track record of leading and securing approvals for exploration programs over multiple land types

- Deep understanding of local land types including the securing and maintenance of land and tenure positions

- Experience working in multiple jurisdictions across Canada

- Familiarity with GIS-based land management systems

- Demonstrated ability to influence multidisciplinary teams and coordinate across legal, technical, and community functions.

The base salary range for this role is $128,000 - $180,000 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health and retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
