Plant Automation & Controls Engineer
Location:
Sandersville, GA (periodic travel to Langley, SC)
We are not looking for software developers, DevOps, or test-automation engineers.
We need a true hands-on electrical/controls engineer who has spent time in a process plant programming PLCs, building HMIs, terminating panels, and troubleshooting 480V motor circuits in a plant environment.
- Design, program, install, and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley PLCs (PLC-5, SLC-500, ControlLogix, CompactLogix)
- Build and modify FactoryTalk View, RSView32, and AVEVA (Wonderware) HMI/SCADA screens
- Hands-on wiring, loop checks, startup, and commissioning of new control panels and instrumentation
- Size breakers, specify and program VFDs (PowerFlex 525, 755, 700 series), motor starters, and soft-starts
- Run point-to-point checks with electricians and direct instrumentation techs
- Run CapEx automation projects across our three mineral-processing plants (calciner, air-float, and drying circuits)
- Work directly with 480V–13.8kV power distribution, MCCs, and Ethernet/IP networks- BS Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or closely related (will consider AS + strong experience) - 5+ years of hands-on PLC programming and HMI development in a continuous-process manufacturing plant (minerals, chemicals, paper, food/beverage, metals, etc.)
- Allen-Bradley experience: ControlLogix, CompactLogix, PLC-5, SLC-500, FactoryTalk View, RSLogix 5000/Studio 5000
- Comfortable opening panels, using a multimeter, and directing electricians on 480V wiring
- Willing to be in the plant daily (PPE, hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots required)
- Experience with AVEVA Wonderware / System Platform / InTouch
- Medium-voltage (4.16kV–13.8kV) or mining/aggregate/minerals background
- AutoCAD Electrical or ETAP/EasyPower
- Project engineering experience (scope, budget, schedule, contractors)
- Base salary $95,000 – $120,000 (very flexible for the right person)
